What sonars are you all using with your floate tubes. As i am getting an ODC 420 and need to be able to find the little fishies.
Thanks

Right now I am using a Eagle Cuda 168. Cant say I've been too impressed with it though.
I will soon be upgrading to a [#0e165e]Lowrance X67C Depthfinder. [/#0e165e] [signature]

[black]I use one of the old Hummingbird 300TX. Kinda old and only showes the little fish, but, it has never let me down.[/black]
[black]A slight nodification and I can use it on both my Potoons and my SFC. Add to that one of the small rechargeables and I am good to go.[/black] [signature]

[cool][#0000ff]Almost any sonar that will show good bottom contour and help you see fish will work on the tube or toon. Since you don't move fast you don't need speed readings but having a temp guage is a definite plus. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]Sidefinders are good if you fish shallow water for trout, but are wasted in fishing deeper fish on the bottom.[/#0000ff] [#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]I have been a fan of the lower powered sonars, like Eagle. You can get a couple of days operation out of a single charge on your SLA battery, but you really should charge them back up after every use. [/#0000ff] [#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]I have two different models of Eagles I use. One is the Cuda 168 EX and the other is the Fishmark 420 (I think). The latter has a split screen with "real time" display, which helps see your jig when vertical jigging.[/#0000ff] [#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]Reality? Most of the fish you catch will not appear on your screen first. You use the sonar to find fishy areas and to determine the depths they are holding. Only when you are looking for schools of fish on the bottom, for vertical presentations, is the fishfinder aspect of your sonar a key element.[/#0000ff] [#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]There are several of the Bottomline sonars that are priced right and work well for tubing. Lowrance makes good stuff, but the more you pay the greater the power and sensitivity. You can get more than you need for tubing and pay more than you should.[/#0000ff] [#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]Look in the past posts on Best of the Best, and in the picture section Sonar Buying Guide. Once you decide, check for the best prices and check on Ebay. Most units are not price regulated and you can find some good deals...especially on closeouts or end of season specials.[/#0000ff] [signature] |
