Are the whitefish still spawning? Haven't made it out yet-wondering if its too late?

[cool][#0000ff]The spawn usually stretches from sometime after Thanksgiving until about the middle of December. The peak time is usually the first week of December.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]My guess is that the spawn is pretty much over, but you can still catch whitefish on lures in many spots on the lake. In fact they are great targets through the ice, especaily over the rock pile out from Ideal Beach.[/#0000ff]

Yes, the WF spawn is pretty much over with. Could you catch a few later spawners? I don't know, but the hot fishing is over for whitefish. The jigging for cutthroat has been good almost anywhere along the east side. I haven't heard any reports from off the rockpile area this past week. Try about 30-50 feet of water with tubes tipped with cisco. Also try jigging spoons such as "castmasters" tipped with cisco. Sometimes at this time of year they want something more flashy than a tube!

On February 16, 2004 we caught lots of whitefish ice fishing right on top of the old Rock Piles. I had my AquaVu out there and Wiperslayer1 would tell me when to set the hook and whether I had a whitefish or a sucker on. Great fun. If you vertically jig for them (at least that time of year) if your offering is more than about 2 inches off of the bottom you won't catch them.
