Mantua Update...
#1
I was privileged to meet up with MantuaFantatic (Toby) and his wife on Friday. The ice was a safe 6". It was cold and breezy, but being the master they were, Toby and his wife were icing them left and right. Meanwhile it took me a while before reeling in a Largie. Earlier that day, Toby's friend caught a 22" bow and a ton of other species. They had to pack it up, so they generously offered their spot, and I proceeded to catch 5 perchies instantly and all within 20 or 30 minutes. Nothing too huge, but it was fun. Tubedude we were about 50-75 strides east of where you were at. Bait of choice seemed to be a white rat finkee tipped with a waxie.

This morning I promptly took my boys back to the same exact spot. The hot hole went cold much to my surprise, but we drilled another and my 6 yr old showed me and my 10 yr old how to do it. He caught 4 (2 gills, 2 perchies), but he hooked into a nice Largie that got up to the hole and fell off. Of course, I got skunked. That's the way it is when I take my boys. There were lots of other fisherman around us and it didn't look like anyone else was even having half the success we had; which is slower than slow.

I'll plan on heading out there again next Friday and hopefully the action will pick up.

[cool][#0000ff]If we are able to make it, we will plan to hit the ice about 8 or so. The best bite on our last trip was mid morning. That is usually when the weather is calmest. [/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Let's watch the weather and do the anti-W dance.[/#0000ff]

If things get too drastic, we could always run to Smith's and make purchase, and put that camera of yours to good use! [Tongue]

[cool][#0000ff]What are you suggesting? That I take a picture of you buying fish...or that we take some storebought fish out on the ice, take pictures and try to convince gullible BFTers that we caught them on Mantua?[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I think most of the members are just a bit too sharp to fall for seeing a whole salmon on the ice...or a halibut.[/#0000ff]

[cool][#0000ff]Here's a pic that would shake up the troops if we could convince them it was on Mantua.[/#0000ff]
