Lots of questions about East Canyon. Open water North of Taylor Hollow, yet frozen with 4-5" of ice South of that and around the Dam and State park. Safe ice and edges today. 17 degrees this morning. Slow fishing for us South of Taylor hollow; only 3 fish between 7 of us. Tried white, chartreuse, pink and orange jigs with meal, wax, night crawler, power bait. 10-30' of water. Finally got into them in the afternoon by moving around and did well with white and waxie.

Thanks for the post. I am headed there in the morning. Did you get hold of any tiger trout? I have never had the pleasure of their company. Sure would like to try one on.
I will report when I get back tomorrow.

I'll be there in the morning also where are you planning on going? I'm taking my son for the first time and would like to get him on a couple. I'll be in a green Eskimo Quick flip III.

Thanx for all the posts. richhy31 if I had read your post before I went, I would have taken more time to help you and your son. I was the one who tried to put his auger and sled on the bottom of Taylor Hollow. Thanx for the rope. If I see you up there again, I would be happy to spend some time with you and your son.
After a traumatic start, I finally got on to the business at hand. Drilled a couple of holes in 38 feet of water and just sat and watched. Not much to start with but soon there were fish up and down the column. 10 ft to just off the bottom. Decided start at about 30 ft. Good choice. Did not take but just a few seconds to start up the action. During my time there I only had just one short period of time that something wasn't happening. I purchased a 2 pole permit but did not have much time to use the other.
I caught fish at many diffent depths, but had my best success at the 30 foot mark. I did the most damage with either a white or crawfish colored jig tipped with mealies or a little dab of power bait. I hope to take my son in law up there this Saturday for his first trip of the year. Maybe I will see you there.

I am not sure about the HOV. I am not sure I would take one out right now even if I could. There is not snow on the ice and it is a bit slippery. I know for a fact. The ice where I was was only 4" at best. (probably closer to 3),Maybe less than that.
I was fishing in the Taylor Hollow area of the lake. There were a number of people out there today. I would guess 45 to 50 just in that area.
There is one thing I learned a long time ago. Get some distance from the crowds!
Sometimes it doesn't take a lot of distance but distance!

I should start posting my BFT name on my ice tent so we know who each other are. I felt really bad to watch Bigfish12's sled slide down the hill and into the open water, just glad you got it back.
I took my son out for his first ice fishing experience. It was Ok but pretty slow. He managed to ice is first 2 fish and I only caught 2 my self. We started in 20 feet of water then tried 30 then back to 20. we caught all 4 on a crawfish colored jig tipped with a mealworm. We'll have to try it again a little later and hopefully get some more action.

There were a few people around the boat ramp but I'd make sure and check your ice. There was still a lot of open water.
