East Canyon 1-1-07
#1
Well, after yesterdays trip to East Canyon Resevoir I might just have to change my handle to East Canyon Fanatic. We had a blast. There were 4 of us fishing and I really don't even know how many fish we pulled out. We took a few home for dinner including a 19 1/2" Rainbow that weighed 5 1/2 lbs! I will post pictrues once I get them downloaded. I'm hoping to get up there a few more times this season.

Toby

Sorry it took me so long to post these pics from our New Year's Day trip to East Canyon.

Were you ice fishing?

Yeah. Definitely ice-fishing! The ice is 5-6" thick over most of the lake. There probably is still a little bit of open water on a small part of the lake.

Hey I recycled you fish holes today. Just had a little time. 330 to 530. Caught 7 total running worms on chartruse crappie jigs. Kept 2 fat ones for dinner. Did your bigger one have a belly full of 1-2" crappie? The two I kept were full of em. I didn't know east canyon had any pan fish. If the trout keep gobbleing them down they may get some size to them.

All of the fish that my nephew caught the other day at East were full of them to. I looked at some that he brought home. Looked like baby small mouth to me. But then what the hell do I know. They were a small pan fish for sure.

We hit E Canyon 2 Jan and 29 Dec down on the south end.We did well using wattacrickets tipped with a waxie and sometimes a salmon egg.The best bite was just after first light until around noon. After that the bite totally shutdown. We moved around after it slowed down but still no luck. The ones we were catching were full of what we were told to be crappie fry.Whatever they are they sure give them bows a fat belly!

Thanks for the post. We'll be heading up there this Sat hopefully to avoid the Pineview madness. Went up there today and there were holes everywhere.

We were just out from the boat dock by one of the buoys. Most of the fish we caught were right off the bottom (30-50ft.)
