Gas Auger question
#1
I purchased a strikemaster lazer 10 inch gas auger today from anglers den. My father in law told me that I wouldnt be able to use a 10" auger on some lakes. Has anyone heard this at all? I will trade it in for an 8 inch if that is the case. Any other advantages or diSadvantages to the 10 inch that anyone can think of? Thanks in advance! Jeff

I cant think of any lakes in Utah that you couldnt use a 10 inch auger. In fact for power augers, 10 inchers are probably the most popular. I personally like a 8 inch auger to be able to drill 3 holes together for bigger fish and on lakes that will allow 18 inch holes. (Flaming Gorge, Bear Lake, Fish Lake) You cant do this with a 1o inch auger.

Isnt it though! Not only is a 10 inch auger legal, the proclamation states you can even have a 12 inch hole on all bodies of water in Utah! (pg 9 of proc.)

Polo,

Thanks for the info. The guy at anglers said something about drilling 3 holes in a triangle shape to make a big hole at the gorge. Interesting idea. My father in law mentioned Sulphur creek in WY not allowing the 10 inch holes. I cant think of any reasons not to have a 10 inch except for weight and this particular model is only like 2 lbs heavier.

Side note: used the ice tent a couple of times. Thanks again for driving up to meet me.

Sounds like the father-in-law has got a small case of auger-envy.

HEY, BIGGER IS BETTER, BUT IF YOU ARE THINKING ABOUT FISHING TOURNAMENTS - SOMETIMES THEY PUT RESTRICTIONS ON HOLE SIZE AND LIMIT THE SIZE TO 8". IF YOU DON'T AND JUST WANT TO FISH - WHY NOT 10" SOUNDS GOOD.
