Utah Lake
#1
I am wanting to take my husband ice fishing for the first time, and I was thinking that Utah Lake would be one of the best places for a good first time. I haven't been ice fishing at Utah Lake since I was a teenager with my dad. Can anybody give me any tips on where to take him? Plus, to be selfish, I would like to catch something besides white bass, just for fun. I don't get up that far north that often and have only been there as an adult during the warmer weather, and only ever catch white bass. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

[black]As far as Utah Lake goes, it is kind of hit and miss right now. There haven't been too many reports lately, but maybe someone with some recent success down there will chime in and give you a better prognosis for a first time on the ice for your significant other. [/black]

[black]If it were me, I would probably want to try a different location other than Utah Lake. I'm not sure where you are located but there are alot of other bodies of water that are more fishable right now where the chances for success on an outing would be greater. [/black]

I'd try Schofield or Strawberry as a better option than Utah Lake. Good luck and have fun!

Thanks fishhound! I will think about somewhere else. I live smack dab in the center of Utah, in Sanpete County. Maybe I will check to see how Scofield or Huntingon Res. are doing.

Welcome to the site..

If you want to keep his interest in the sport I wouldnt take him to UL right now. There bite is slow for the most part.

My bro did the Scofield ordeal last weekend, zippo. Said it was the deadest he'd seen that pond in years.
Huntington, well, take your sno shoes and plan on a rough go.

If I were you I'd slap a little gas in the tank and run to Otter Creek. The bow fishing (15-18 inches) was hot last weekend. We fished in water depth of 22 feet.
We also hit Fish Lake last weekend and will again in the morning.. Splake, Bows and Perch, Mac. Weather man tells me tomorrow would be your best bet for a little sun shine over the weekend.. (Use caution due to the ice conditions at FG).

Bait used at both locations, Crawlers, shiners, Chub, (perch meat at FG).
Good luck to you and your hubby..
