Pineview
#1
I don't get too cold very often, but today at Pineview I cried uncle. I am not a big fan of fishing in a tent, but I would have been more than happy to get into one today.

The fishing for my small party of three was very slow. My bro-in-law had all of the action; two small perchies and a crappie. Oh well, there will be other chances.

We were on the north side of the narrows. After turning off the dam we pulled off the road about a half mile from the dam and there happened to be a small trail that led to the ice.

[Smile] Sorry about the slow fishin for ya. That area has been hammered this year. When I went with Pat we really had to move around and get away from the crowd to have good success. Good luck on your next trip.

[black]Yesterday was a madhouse in the Narrows. There we so many people. "Hammered" is refering to it mildly. Maybe the slow conditions will mellow the crowds but I doubt. Eternal optimism that the next day will be THE day is, well, eternal! As I recall you two fished a weekday?[/black]

[black]It was cold up there with the wind and the snow. I rarely hoist my shelter and turned the heater on to fish but yesterday I did; all day. Man, that wind can rip through the narrows when it has a mind to.[/black]

Yeah we fished a weekday, and there were still 50 people shoulder to shoulder when we left.

I think we went on the 2nd, and I had fished the Berry the day before.... I was 5 times colder at Pineview than I was at Berry due to a small breeze. When it gets windy at the view... it chills you to the bone. [Smile]

The other cold thing about the Pineview Narrows is that even on a sunny day the sun only shines about 2 hours in the Narrows.

Boy am I sure glad that I wasn't the only one cold. I was worried that the crowds would be heavy, but I thought that I would try it anyway. Hey, it still beats being at work.

[black]Oh, It was dang cold but I wasn't. I had my jacket off and was very comfortable. That shelter and heater had it toasty enough so you couldn't see your breathe and the snow on the floor was melting and the heater was on low. [/black]

[black]What I thought was funny was when those big, strong gusts were rippin' through the narrows, I'd hear a big "Wahoooooo" for the guys behind me. These were diehard guys along with several others in the narrows then who had nothing but their backs to protect them from the wind and stinging snow . What they lacked in equipment they made up with heart![/black]

lol, one of them was me....[Wink] I chatted with good ol Craig (cbr)but you were hiding in your tent. Can't believe you guys took the snowmobiles out!!! I was there when those folks thrashed around like beached dolphins on that water and slick slanted ice at the edge just two days before that. Sure it was cooooold but I can take it....lol. Fish biting keeps me warm.....lol. I've dealt with worse at Mantua. Now that place is BONE CHILLING! Well, it can be anyways. It's gonna be some serious cold next week though. Wherever you go.
