Starvation Ice Condition??? ANY HELP??
#1
Has anyone been to, or by Starvation recently to see the ice conditions there?? I NEED TO KNOW BAD !! My girlfriend has been bugging me CONSTANTLY that she wants to make a trip and ice fish there, but not till I get DEFINATIVE PROOF that the ice is safe...please throw me a bone...PLEASE. If ya have any suggestions on where there would be a good place to try there, that would be helpful also. We are very familiar with the lake, but only in the Summer....never been there in the Winter yet. If I knew what parts of the lake are accessable with snow on the ground, roads that get plowed, etc... that would be SOOOOOOO helpful. Thank you for ANY suggestions or info.

[font "Arial"][red][size 3]You are not alone in wanting to find out about and fish Starvation. I heard a report a week ago that a few bays were fishable, but the middle was wide open[/size][/red][/font].

Just a short note. I fished Starvation out in front of the marina, Indian Bay, And Rabbit Gulch. I mean I poked holes alot of holes. No fish. Accessibility is good 2 wheel drive about 4 inches of snow. The ice is 3 1/2 in to 5 1/2 in scarry looking ice. Seen three perch caught at the bay west of the freedom bridge. Steep hill to climb down. I sent the boy. Might have to try there next week. Fished from 20-45 feet deep no luck. How about P.M.ing me with detailed info on where you got them. Or a report if you didn't get them. Good Luck Pikeman GO FISH

Unfortunitely[pirate] (and also fortunitely[Smile] depending on how I look at it) yes I do, but that's all of the personal details/biz I care to share on a public forum such as this one, especially when a friend of my ex-in laws pops onto this forum from time to time). Send a p.m. if you have further questions...

However, you just reminded me of something, catman. I'm gonna have to change my personal info/hobbies section of my profile on here soon...

Drove by it a couple times this weekend. Had a snow covered cap on it. Was too dark to tell if anyone had been fishing it. With the temps in the below zeros overnight it should be fishable very soon if not already. Saturday morning it was a balmy 5 below and this weekend should see 15 to 20 below.

[cool]OEJ, that is terrific news. Sounds like we'll be fishing for 'eyes through the ice soon (which is something I've never done yet), and I'm looking forward to it...

Thanks to all who have posted replies to my questions. Keep this thread going I guess so we can all get updates on the conditions there. I plan on trying it there either this weekend or next. Dunno for sure.
I figured to get all these posts saying that it was hard to keep fish OFF the line not getting them ON the line.....oh well.... gunna try anyway.
I will ask her about friends/relatives that are single and like to ice fish...couldn't say for sure right now. I know her daughter is in a ROCKY relationship (and she is BLONDE & BEAUTIFUL and in her 30's) and she like to ice fish or just fish....good catch !!!

I've been keeping an eye on Starvation reports. It's starting to look positive for safe ice. Hopefully someone close to it will chime in.

[Smile] OK fsh4fun05, I'm chiming in. I saw your post so went for a little drive during my lunch hour. Starvation is frozen over except immeadiatly north of the bridge. My guess is that the wind through this area and under the bridge is keeping this area open. I have never seen "good ice" near the bridge. There were two ice fishermen fishing in the bay just northwest of the bridge. I would also avoid the area near the dam. There are several areas where the ice has buckled and/or sunk leaving holes and water ontop of the ice near the dam. Knight Hollow on the northeast end of the reservoir appears to have "good ice". This is where I would go right now. It has been frozen for quite a while and has several inches of snow on it. This area was also good to me fishing for walleye during the summer . I have heard that Knight Hollow is being fished but haven't heard how the catching has been. Rabbit Gulch, northwest of the bridge looks to have "good ice" and also straight across the reservoir to Indian Bay is iced over pretty well. I would be extremely cautious going to any area in the main part of the reservoir. I would stick to the bays and I would start in Knight Hollow. Currently the roads to Knight Hollow, Rabbit Gulch, and Indian Bay are snow packed but easily passable with 4-wheel drive. I hope to get out there soon and give a better report.
