Deer Creek
#1
Driving by Deer Creek this morning, I noticed it was mostly covered with a thin sheet of ice. I did notice a small boat breaking ice by the island so I know it was thin. With the upcomming forcast of very cold temps this weekend does anyone think there is a possibility that we might get enough hard deck to safely fish it this year?

[cool]It sounds to me like it's on its way unless we get some kind of big thaw right after these upcoming temps...

Be very careful on DC, most years have unsafe ice. I don't think it will be very good this year, to warm. I had my boat on it last thur.
water was 37 de. good luck !!!!!

P.S. The fishing at DC is red hot

I went by Deercreek on Jan 1st and there was a guy (no brain, no pain) WATER SKIING !! YES, I said WATER SKIING....brrrrrrrrrr !!! There were some boats trolling....brrrrrrrrr.... and this is all after I had been to Rockport ice fishing on 6-8 inches of ice...go figger !! Jordanelle was free of ice too...Dunno why one lake less than 5 miles away (as the crow flies) would be froze while another would not be. By the way...no fish at Rockport and drove the "sceneic" ride home.
It's REALLY weird how one year Deercreek will freeze and not the next. I know in years past it has to be COLD for a few days to cap the lake and then once it does it seems to stay for awhile. Hope for some really cold days and then it'll be FISHIN' @ DEERCREEK time again.

The key to Deer Creek freezing over is not only the colder temps, but a week or so with no wind. We have not had that this year as yet. If the cold weather that is coming last a week DC will cap, but most of it will not be safe ice. Heber has been getting down into the single digits for the last few nights. always ice in the morning mostly gone by afternoon. In the last six years there have been 2 good ice years for DC. Keeping fingers crossed and hoping for the best.
