Strawberry 1/20...at least not skunked.

Grrrrr...this is the SECOND time I've typed this. I lost it after I posted pics! ...and it appears I messed up attaching the pics also...they should be there now.

I took my 10 year old daughter ice fishing with me to the Berry this morning for her first ever ice fishing trip! She's been with me many times on the boat, but I always thought she would get too cold ice fishing, but now that I have an ice shack, I figured she had a place to get warmed up if she got cold. As it turns out she spent most of her morning outside playing in the snow and sunshine making snow angels, snowmen, writing her name in the snow with footprints, and all the other fun stuff that kids do outside! She never got cold once! She did get a little bored with the fishing as it was slow slow slow. She did have a couple of fish on and almost up to the hole but they didn't stay on. The 3 of us (me, her and my cousin) ended up with only 4 fish for the day, with one going just over 22 inches. She was fascinated with the whole ice fishing thing, and watched a fish grab her lure down the hole from inside the ice shack once. She thought that was cool. So did I! The big fish that we got actually hit her lure first and she missed the hookset, and it immediately bit my lure and I got it...so she says that one is hers! I'll let her have it. We stopped at her favorite fast food joint on the way home, Arbys (in Heber) then she zonked out and slept the whole way home. Went thru Provo Canyon to check out DeerCreek on the way home. First time I've ever seen the whole lake capped! People out there fishing but I don't know how well they did. I need to get Whitney out there again when the fish are biting! She loves that! Randy

That is an awesome post, NETO! And fantastic pics too! I'm glad you and your daughter had a fun trip! Likewise, I have been taking my 10 yr. old boy fishing the last couple of weekends but we haven't had much luck. I am worried that he's becoming bored with Ice Fishing but he keeps telling me that he's having a fun time just hanging out with dad...

That's what it's all about right there.

I'd like to get down to Strawberry, but don't see it happening anytime soon. If you ever head up here to the north country, let me know and maybe we can hook up and let our kids catch a few!

[cool][#0000ff]Excellent. Who says girls don't make good fishin' buddies? My girls loved fishing...until they discovered boys.[/#0000ff]

[cool][#0000ff]The girls were both luckier at fishing than at love. Both were "first time losers" at marriage...and the guys both got away with a lot of my tackle too. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]On the positive side, both now have families and the grandkids are comin' along just fine in the fishing department. Makes me believe in heredity after all.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]A word of advice from a guy who has "been there, done that": take those younguns (boys and girls) fishing every chance you get. All of a sudden you run out of chances to fish with the kids. They grow up. And, once they do the photos and the memories are priceless.[/#0000ff]

Looks like she was having a good time! I've not taken my 6 YO up there yet, but I will likely take her up in a year or so. Fishin' with the kids is a lot of fun.

great story and pics, NETO

Pat that certainly is the truth. I fished with my daughter a lot. Did not get to record many of those trips on film, but certainly have many great memories.
She's 19 and off in college now....no more fishin trips with dad...not enough time.

Great story. My daughter is the same way about counting fish. Some days she doesn't care who reels in her pole if she can count the fish. Helps out on days the fish like her pole more than her brothers.

I have taken my 6 year old daughter and my 4 year old son ice fishing twice and they loved it !! My daughter still brags about the time she "almost" caught a fish and dad never got a bite. They are planning on going this Sat. with me.

[cool]Excellent post, dude. I have a two and a half year old daughter, but think she's a little small for ice fishing yet. Gotta be a little tougher for that. I am going to take her to Mantua this summer though for some bluegill action. Took her once last summer and she had a great time even though the action was slower than normal there...We still got into a few tiny gils...
