So I went to Flaming Gorge today... I have never ice fished there before.. I got a map and put about 10 locations into my GPS.. I took my new pole and reel and my new fish finder and trekked out onto swim beach.. my first hole was at about 75 feet, I was thinking I was doing great because my gps coordinates seem to be matching up to my map... my first drop I pulled a fish up off the bottom, he looked at my jig and went away.. I did that four more times over the next hour and then...... Nothing, Nada, Zip...
I had a great day and hiked my butt off, we walked all over that bay drilling holes and checking for fish but nothing...
But the chance of catching one of this big fish was there and I cant wait to go back..

I have yet to fish any of the so called GPS spots but I been going at it blind . Granted , I not hooking big fish but have been at least hooking a few dinks . Better luck next time .

well thgat is just one of thousands of day's that the lake will make you shake ur head and wonder why the hell you walked that far and just remmber you have only started I have heard that it take's about 500hr for each trophy laker so you got lot's of day's left lmfao it's just mac fishing and swim is the only one spot that every one know's and fishe's so it get's pounded better luck next time ASH

Hey dont listen to these fellers. Their filling you with BS and they all know it.
The fact will prove there is zero truth to the statement "a person has to put in their dues" and "spending countless hours/days/weeks/mouths/years, not to mention (lots of $ and self torment) trying to "learn the fish and their habits" to be successful on landing a Big Mac even once, yet alone on regular bases. Hey just between me and you,,, the truth is 30's and 40's are easy to come by and line the bottom of FG like the warts on a toads back. Its a piece of cake. Just wander out a couple hundred feet and punch a hole or drop line from a boat. Within minutes you'll be coating the ice or loading the boat with so called trophy Mac in the 30-40 lb class. Its those eaters that are hard to come by..

We were in the swim beach/linwood area, I think, were were about 3 miles from the gas station in manilla and were just north of linwood bay.. I actually think we were in the same bay that utwalleye was in when they caught those two macs.. the cliffs behind look just like the ones in their pictures... the ice was fine easily 10 inches but it looks like it is going fast... the ice was extremely noisy in the morning and then it started to melt just a bit on top.. that made for extremely slippery ice... there was a big pressure crack on the north side that had some open water on it..
if you want I will give you the gps coordinates.. thats kind of the cool part of flaming gorge too, is using my gps...

I used sucker meat... but I did not use smelly jelly.. I had several fish come up and look at my lure but they would not hit it.. I guess the jelly would have helped.. next time..

THATS THE PART THAT COST THE $$$ TO LERN. I USED A GUIDE SERVICE TO LERN IT. COST WAS 250 BUCKS. AND WORTH EVERY PENNY!!!! WOULD HAVE SPENT A SMALL FORTUNE JUST IN GAS TO FIGURE IT OUT ON MY OWN. AND IF I SHARED THAT INFO SOMEONE WOULD PUTT A HIT OUT ON ME.LOL IVE BEEN SWORN TO SECRESSY. GET ONE OF THE GUY,S HERE TO GO WITH YA. IF YOU CAN.
