Day at Deer Creek
#1
We decided to take the day off and see how the boat survived the cold winter. We didn't get a very early start, but were fishing by about 7:30. Loving the fact that you can use two poles anywhere now, we set up the planer boards running rapalas, then set up the downriggers. We caught two rainbows right away on the planer board with a black and silver rapala. A couple of missed strikes and then it went dead for awhile. Changed lures and tactics and got back into them. The downriggers were not doing well even running at a shallow depth, we changed to diving rapalas with 120-150 feet of fireline. Started picking up more rainbows and then hooked a nice brown. (sorry no picture , battery problems) It was 20 inches and in the landing process it coughed up a 6 inch perch. We released him to find dinner. It was beautiful day and the wind didn't pick up until we were on the way off the lake. After we changed batteries several times, here are the pictures we managed to get. Enjoy.

Great report!! It is great to have your boat running good after this cold winter we just had. [Wink] So there is no ice whatsoever on DC? What depth were the fish you were catching?

Nice fish! I was trying to tell my cousin deer creek would be open this weekend but he said that he had driven past last week and was sure it wouldn't be ready for boats for at least 1 more week. I didn't see any icebergs in your pics though! [Wink] FISH ON!

There is no ice on the lake. The water temp was 40 first thing in the morn, but warmed to 47 with the Charleston end the warmest. We caught most of the fish 10 to 15 feet down. Lots of deer on the RR side.
The perch color was the most consistent but caught them on multiple colors.
