Lucky Craft Pointers
#1
I was at Sportsmans last night and noticed they have Lucky Craft Pointers and Bevy Shad for 10.99. This is 10.00 less than I have found them any where else.

I choke at the thought of spending $10.00 for a lure, but have heard so much good about them, I might pick up a couple.

What colors would you reccomend?

I have the bright yellow. It worked great at Bear Lake.

I'll probably get death threats against me, but, for the most part, I have just as much--if not more-- luck with similarly shaped rapalas as I do with pointer minnows, and I can buy 3 or 4 for the same price. Maybe I'm fishing them wrong. I troll with Original floaters, I cast suspending husky jerks (could probably just use husky jerks).

No worries Trollboy you're observation is correct, for the most part. What I have noticed is how sharp the hooks are on the pointers. While I get just as many hits on either the rapala or the pointers, I seem to have a higher pecentage of fish into the boat with the pointers. I think the big difference between the two ( besides the price) is the hook quality of the pointer. For me a couple more fish in the net is worth the extra cost of the pointer. [Wink]

A few new hooks for the Rapalas may be in order. Or maybe use the diamond hook sharpener before throwing them in the water? Has anyone used the Live Pointers with the fancy tail movement?

sounds like a few gammi upgrade hooks would do the trick. if hooks are the only difference you see in the two brands, it would be much cheaper to just upgrade your hooks on the raps. of course, there are many here that will not believe that raps have the same quality of action, or colors. i may have to try a lucky craft sometime and form my own opinion on this one!

About all I fish when throwing cranks are pointers. However, I have not had a lot of luck with the live pointers, they don't seem to dive quite right for the way I like fish them. Try the standard Pointer size 78 suspending in your favorite color, there is nothing better.

I'll have to pick one up I haven't tried the Pointers. What are you usually targeting with these? Mostly trout?

I agree with you trollboy. I cannot justify spending 10.00+ on a lure. Especially when Rapalas have treated me so well.

I do sharpen my hooks on Rapalas though. I have had very few get off. In the last week, using Rapalas almost exclusively, I have had maybe 2 fish get off.

I have also had some good luck on the Storm produts as well. I know they are cheapies, but they have good action and catch fish. [cool]
