Well, I christened the Glastron F&S for 2007 today. Took it out around 10AM with the fam (wife and 6YO son).
I started off in the "arm" and fished both "stickup" coves with leadhead grubs and senkos for the SMB bite...a few "nibbles" but there was no slamming of the baits and no hookups...so, after an hour of that, it was off to look for rainbows...
I went further up toward the PWC ramp on the right side to the cliff areas that always produce in 20' of water. Nothing for me on casted rapalas and kastmasters and nothing on bait for my son.
My trolling motor was on the fritz but I decided to try and troll from my big 5.4 anyway...I usually can get it to idle at around 2.5-3.0 depending on the wind.
I put out a rainbow rapala and trolled back out toward the buoys along the shore and within 90 seconds...BAM...first bow was itty bitty. 10 minutes later and on the other side I managed to hook up on a real nice 19"er.
We boated two more fish but only kept two fish in all. Before we left at 3PM I tried once more to get some SMB into the boat...no luck.
I guess 'bassrods' will have to show me how its done sometime...even if he doesn't get any SMB he always hooks up on some of the ugliest big browns!
It sure was nice to kick off the year on 3/25!
