Lonely Tubin'
#1
[cool][black][#0000ff]Nobody wanted to go fishing with me this morning and TubeBabe is still in Arizona. So, I went alone. Did a daybreaker at Lindon, hoping for calm conditions. Got 'em.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Nobody else down there early and only one boat went out all day. Quick tune up run and back on the trailer. Didn't see any bank tanglers all morning. I guess I need to do something about my smelly jelly deodorant.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]The full moon was just going down into Saratoga Springs across the lake as I drove up to my launch spot. Air temp 41 and no breeze at all. Water temp was 49 inside the harbor but 51.5 outside. The recent windy conditions have made the water pretty murky.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Threw all kinds of plastics, hardbaits and spinners along the inside of the harbor and on the rock points of the dike. Not a touch. Murky water usually slows the visual bite. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I flipped a mental coin to decide which direction to point my tube for the day. North won because the forecast was for NW breezes later and I prefer to surf back in rather than fight the wind and waves.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]The water is WAAAAAAAAY high. It was tough to even see where the creek came in by the dump. I worked the whole area over with my arsenal of lures before moving out a bit deeper and dragging a minnow on one rod. No white bass and no walleyes in evidence.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I started getting pop and drop hits on bait almost as soon as I put it on. Figured it might be mudders or whities. Finally got a serious runner and pierced the lip of a 24" channel that weighed 5.7 pounds. Finally, a friend who wanted to join me.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I kept moving in and out along a fairly long stretch of shoreline, looking for any kind of concentration of fish. Only the occasional carp swirl on the surface and a few blipettes on sonar. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I got one more channel cat that was an inch shorter and a pound less than my first one. I also got a bullhead (mudder) and several "golden bonefish" that slurped my jigs and provided some entertainment. Flygoddess would have had a lot of fun with a large school of them that were hanging around a small reed island. They were definitely feeding. I hooked several in the mouth and had quite a few other definite hits.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]The NW breeze came up, as advertised, about 10 AM. Nothing too bad, but whatever bites I had been getting just stopped. I worked my way all the way back into the harbor without another whack on either bait or lures. The water temp outside had raised to 53.5 but was still just over 50 inside the harbor.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Sure was lonely down there. Glad some fishies decided to play and that a couple of nice kitties volunteered to go home with me. I might even invite them to relax in my sauna (smoker).[/#0000ff]

Way to go TubeDad. When the cat's away, the mouse will play. hee hee.

I think that Joni's Bonefish looks more like a Hillbilly Trout. Could be a Bugle Mouth Bass too. I wasn't there to see it live so my assessment wouldn't count anyways.

Good job though. You sure know how to make a son proud.[cool]

Great report. Those catfish save the day for you quite often.

Do you eat the bullheads? I remember doing so when I was a kid but haven't for many years.

[cool][#0000ff]There are many trips where I specifically target the kitties, but I always know they are there for a "fallback".[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I went again today. Will put up a report.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]My wife and I LOVE the bullheads. We fillet them and cook them "kitty krispie" style and they are great.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Wow. Those go way back. I remember those in Idaho Falls, when I was a kid (dark ages).[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Basically donuts made from a mix using potato flour.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]These days I guess it could refer to anyone from Idaho.[/#0000ff]

[black]Hey Pat,[/black]
[black][/black]
[black]I'm suprised that someone else remembers "spudnuts" [/black]

Boy, were they good eating. I used to get them fresh and hot every Sunday morning.

There is no dounut available on the market today that holds a candle to a good old spudnut.

When I read it on the post, it really brought back some good memories.

You know TD, remembering them is really dating ourselves. Ain't being mature great? NOT!!!!

[cool][#0000ff]People ask if I am bothered by growing old. My response is "No...considering the alternative". [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Now I have to go back to coloring Easter eggs. Since my wife is out of town I have to hide my own eggs. Probably won't find all of them again this year. That is both an upside and downside of reduced capacities.[/#0000ff]

[black]I know what you mean TD,

People ask me how old I am, and I tell them that I was selling products from a taco push stand while Moses was learning crowd control.

There are quite a few SpudNuts in the chain. They are mostly in Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties though. They don't dare bring them into LA County though. The frieks on this side are not open minded enough when you ask them about it.

They just say "Spudnuts??? I didn't think a potatoe needed to be anatomically correct".

By the Way. If you are plenty nine...............That makes me only plenty one.[Wink]
