Has anyone fished Big Elk or Little Elk lake up in the Uintas?

If so, what time of year does the snow melt enough to make that area accessible?

usually anything over 8500 feet its usually at least the middle of april, if not early may

i want it to be spring too!

hey chef looking at topozone.com those two lakes appearno higher then 3500 feet two or three more days like today and you could probably head up this weekend

Aquaman... You must be looking at meters instead of feet. Those lakes are in the 9000+ foot range.

I looked through my provo and weber river drainage book I got from the DWR, that says that Big Elk Lake is 10,020 feet and little elk lake is 9,780 feet in elevation.

probably late may - beginning of june you can get up there with not much snow . .

A good indicator is watching the snow on the wasatch front. When it is finally gone, then you can usually get to the higher lakes in the Uintahs. Usually around the end of may, first part of june is when you can count on ice off.
