I bought mine from Smith and Edwards, it was one of those universal type. You just cut to length, then attach the ball to one side and the clamp to the other. The clamp usually goes to the big motor and you have to drill a hole for the ball on the kicker, unless you already have one. There are other ways to attach the rod and if the standard method won't work, like putting a ball on both ends. You can also get a longer rod if the standard rod is too short. They sell rod stock at Lowes and Home Depot. What kind of problems were you having?

On my trolling engine i have nowhere to hook the rod up too.Maybe you can see something i cant. It has me really frustrated. I bought one last year and i couldnt hook it up so i tried a hose clap to the rod and the rod ended up falling into the water! [pirate]

Drill a hole in the case. That is what i did. You just need to reinforce it with some tight fitting washers inside and out.

Cesar, there are a few ways to do it. One is the method LH2 described. What I would do, is drill out those two rivets in the middle of the motor hood. The two right in the front of the hood are used to secure a bracket inside the hood and hold the hood on. Buy or build a "L" bracket and rivet or bolt the two(one on the inside, one on the outside), back on. With the "L" bracket secured to the front, simply install the ball on the bracket. This would be the best method but you could also put a clamp around the throttle arm and attach the ball to it. This is not the best method because the clamp with loosen up with the constant movement but it will work in a pinch. I have used both methods and they both work. Let me know if this makes sense to you, if not, I can attach some pictures to show you what I'm talking about.

I would look at the mount the holds the tiller handle on. it looks like you could mount the ball to that, maybe on the under side of it. it looks like you smaller motor is a little higher anyway, so mounting it under would keep the rod a little straighter. hope it works out for you witch ever way you do it. later chuck

I tried it there but it is to small . On the instructions it shows that you can install it there but not on my engine. You have to screw in a bolt there and my engine you cant in that spot. Thanks for the advice.

I haven't given up on you yet, was very busy yesterday but I'll take those pictures today. I did get one, it shows how you might need to bend the rod once you get the ball mounted. I'll take a picture of the bracket later today and show where you will need to mount it.

Cesar, it looks like my Evinrude is a different year than yours and the rivets are not quite the same but I think you can get the idea. The first two pictures show inside of the hood and hopefully it look like yours or similar. The next is the outside rivets and I know this does not look like yours but I hope you get the idea. The next picture shows a bracket beside the rivets and the last shows the bracket in the center of the hood where you will need to put it. As I said, you will need to drill out those two rivets, drill the bracket to match the rivets holes you drilled out, then rivet or bolt the bracket back in place. Bolting will be the easiest, just remember to put the hold down bracket, inside the hood, back in place when you put it back together. Hope it works out for you, if you need some more info or help send me a PM.
