Just wondering if there is anyway to charge a battery at the Lucerne boat ramp? I've tried all kinds of things to keep a charge on that battery but nothing I care to do again if I don't have to.

the olnly way i know how to charge at the ramp is to pull the boat out and bring your truck around and jump charge it..

but if your battery keeps going dead then i would have to say there is someting drawing on your battery some where.. or it's a bad battery.. your battery should hold a charge for a good 5 to 6 months with out running the motor.. [signature]

[black]I'm not sure what you're asking. Was you battery dead when you got there or do you need a place to charge it between outings? I'm assuming you need a 110 outlet to hook a charger to? [/black]

[black][/black] [black]I know there is a plug on the fish cleaning station at the top of the ramp. Whether it is hot or not I don't know, early in the season you may be able to use it before the masses show up or the cleaning station opens. Also the D Loop of the campground has electically outlets. I know of nothing at the bottom of the ramp but that's not a place you want to charge batteries anyway.[/black] [black][/black] [black]Why are your batteries discharging? Is the battery dying or do you have a short somewhere on the boat? Loose connectios at the battery terminals? I'd look for the problem causing the drain.[/black] [signature]

I was talking about the onboard batteries. How do you guys keep a charge without a A/C outlet? Running the trolling motor sucks a lot of juice out of that thing. Hello Don! I'll PM you when I get a chance. [signature]

Sorry I don't know if there is a plug in anywhere around Lucern. I have always pulled the boat out of the water and used my generator to charge the trolling motor batteries with my onboard charger.

I think I'll bag it and just get a generator. Anyone have a report? I thought it was slower this early in the spring, seems like a lot of big ones are already showing up.

Cabela's carries a charger that allows you to charge both your onboard starting batteries and your onboard trolling bank. I have on and it works well. Of course, your main engine has to be running above idle for the alternator to generate enough juice to give them a good charge. Not a problem if you are running up or down lake for 20-40 minutes. If your going from Swim to Lucerne you won't get much.

No, there are a couple listed, just do a search on the top of the Cabelas page for "battery charger". 3 pages of results come up. Some are called voltage sensitive..... and the others are by Dual Pro. I have the Dual Pro 24V 3-bank model. Works great, though involved a bunch of wiring to get it all hooked up right. It's also nice because I wired the standard wall plug part of it to the back of my boat (where my 2-stroke oil well access is) and now when I need to charge all onboard batteries on the boat I can just plug in there without having to get under the cover and all that. Just plug in and I'm good to go.

How long does the engine have to be running to charge a completely dead deep cycle battery?

A lot of variables there including engine alternator voltage/amperage output, what size battery, other draw on system, etc, etc. I use a 24v trolling system and it rarely goes completely dead, but when I plug in to normal AC it takes about 45 minutes to charge, when running on the water you have to charge the starting battery first, so it probably takes a little longer.

Why, thats a great idea those units have, but I don't know what to get yet. I think the Stay N Charge unit maybe the one I end up buying.
