The Colorado Division of Wildlife needs your help to locate reptiles and amphibian species throughout the state.
"Little is known about the populations of herpetofaunal species in Colorado," said Jennifer Kleffner, volunteer and watchable wildlife coordinator for the DOW in Durango. "We need some citizen scientists to help us track and monitor these ecologically important animals."
If you want to learn about salamanders, frogs, toads, turtles, lizards, and snakes, the DOW is sponsoring a free training seminar on species identification and documentation techniques. The class will also introduce you to the DOW's Colorado Herpetofaunal Atlas, an on-line location database and explain how to contribute to it.
The class will be at the Colorado State University San Juan Basin Research Center located south of Hesperus, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sunday, June 10. Registration is required.
