Strawberry 8/25th
#1
Got up early and loaded the canoe and dog and headed to the ladders. I was out on the lake by 7am and decided to troll around the area. As I was heading at my minn kota's top speed of #5, I got a bite, so I stopped and reeled in and it was a nice 20 inch cut...So I let it go and floored the motor again towards a cove I had in mind...when BAM another hit, reeled another 19" cut ...this happened 3 more times and by 8:oo I had 8 fish caught and wasn"t even trying to catch anything...needless to say I never reached the cove inteneded for the day, too much fun trolling at mach 1 in my canoe...Was a great day in the sun

I was out there too. Saw you go by with your dog, my five year old son pointed you out, he thought it was great you had the dog in the canoe with you fishing. [Smile] Glad you did well, what lure were you trolling? We did pretty good right there too, but not as fast as in weeks past, don't know why.

I fished the berry today (Sunday). Started out at the Knolls in FishingNFools secrect spot. I did very well. When I arrived at the secret spot I located some fish immediately and droped the anchor and stayed put for 6 hours. I was using two poles at first but the bite was too steady and I could not keep up so I decided to use only one. Had six doubles but only succeeded on three of them. At one O'clock I headed over to the ladders, there was only one other boat in the area. Marked alot of fish, tossed out the anchor and had some steady action for the next 2.5 hours. Boated a 24" cutt in this area, I gave it to an owner of a chinese resturant in exchange for a chinese dinner at a later time and two boxes of cookies that I received today, they where very happy to recieve the fish. The fish are schooling in 39' of water and are suspended off the bottom about 5'. I did catch some in 30' and 45' but 39' seemed to be the preferred depth. Caught all of the fish vertical jigging with a 2.5" pearl jig tipped with chub.

I used a Zepco...silver with red dots...and that seemed to be great for me. Jigging I used a green tube with minnow and teh 2nd pole was a white tube with a minnow....the weather was great as you know. I'm glad you saw me, my dog loves to fish and eat it as well.

[cool][#0000ff]Nice that you were able to trade your fish for something special...like a good meal...but you just admitted to a violation of fish possession and transfer laws on a public forum. It is not legal to transfer possession of any fish while "on the waters"...only at a place of residence or at a frozen food locker, and with the proper documentation. [/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Better read your proclamation and watch for a DWR vehicle to pull up in your driveway.[/#0000ff]

[black][size 3]Yes, that is correct Pat. [/size][/black]
[black][size 3][/size][/black]
[black][size 3]A person may not give, sell, donate or otherwise transfer possession of wildlife to another person while in the field. [/size][/black]
[black][size 3][/size][/black]
[black][size 3]However, MGB did not say where he was when that occurred. Nor did he mention whether or not the appropriate documentation accompanied the transfer of the fish. So, I believe the DWR would not be able to, nor inclined to do anything.[/size][/black]

Glad that you were able to get out Mike. Despite your layoff it sounds like you haven't lost your touch.

Also fished strawberry on 25th and morning of the 26th. We were on the Soldier side. Saturday was pretty tough - trying lots of techniques (jigging, trolling, etc) and had a few slot fish, but overall a "slow" day for the berry. Where else can you catch nice 20" cutthroat trout, but still call it "slow". Plenty of fishermen, but saw no other fish caught from boats or shore.

Sunday am we finally found fish (all cutts) trolling deeper with lead line, at about 40-45 ft. Pretty consistent catching with all sizes of fish from 14"-21".

Sounds like the west end of the lake is the place to be for the near term.

Pat, I did not transfer possession on the water. I met them at their resturant when I got back in town. Me and some of the guys at work eat lunch at their resturant quite often. I didn't expect any thing intrade for the fish but they insist " the next meal is on the house" and the cookies where a bonus.

[cool][#0000ff]I was not attacking you, Bro. Just wanted to point out that handing off fish on the water is a no no. I should have known that you would go by the book.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Unfortunately, we have had several posts on this board where someone bragged about giving away a lot of fish to other anglers who were not catching anything. Nice gesture but subject to a ticket if you are observed.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Thanks for clarifying your actions.[/#0000ff]
