Plan B....Lincoln Beach 9-8-07
#1
[cool][#0000ff]TubeBabe and Road's wife both had things to do today and we both had "kitchen passes". We had planned to hit an "out of the way" spot on Utah Lake. But, when we showed up just before daybreak, the flashlight showed that the water had dropped since road's last visit. Launching and water depth for fishing were "iffy". [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]So, we went for plan B...Lincoln Beach. Despite the delay, we made it to LB before 7, and it was just getting bright in the east. Tlspyder13 was already there so we chit chatted a bit and then got down to the business of airing up tubes and getting afloat.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Air temp was low 60's. A few midges to munch on while getting ready, but no mosquitoes to donate blood to. Water temps were 69.4 at launch and 72 when we quit about 1 PM. Fair clarity, with some light green skim of algae bloom at times. It will get worse before it gets better.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I announced over the walkie talkies that my primary goal was to bag about 4 nice catfish...to make up a load for the smoker. I will be taking it to Idaho, as insurance that I will have a room at my uncle's place in Moore (near arco). We took some last time and now it is added to the list of things we MUST bring to secure hospitality. One of the others is my fresh pico de gallo salsa. My old Aunt Elaine eats that stuff on her cereal. (not really)[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]We all three split up and went different directions, trying to find the fish and a pattern. Early on the best we could do was molest some bitty whities. They were all over the place and bit on almost any jig we tossed. They also stole some of the minnows we were dragging to entice kitties or walleyes.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I got launched about 7:30 and started in deeper water, gradually working toward the 4-5 foot zone where I typically find a few cats early this time of year. At 8:40, I had a pick up, a good run and set the hook into something with "shoulders". Turned out to be the biggest kitty of the day...a 27" mama cat that weighed right at 8 pounds. 25% of the way to a full smoker.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I lost one other good cat in the 5 foot zone and then nothing. After about two hours of nothing but small white bass and a couple of missed runners, I kicked out into deeper water. As I passed from 6 feet into the 6.5 foot zone, ZING...another runner. This was my smallest fish of the day...a nice 22 inch 4 pounder. Halfway to smokerville.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]The second fish had taken the hook deep, so I had to cut the line and retie. As I was tieing on a new hook, my second rod had an inquiry...and line streamed off the open-bailed reel. This turned out to the first of three consecutive 24 inchers...which weighed from 5 to 5.2 pounds. I caught my last four fish all in the same general area, within less than an hour. The last one was a feisty female that really kicked me around...literally. I always reel in my second line while I am letting the line run on a "busy" rod. It was good I did with that last fish because she spun me around in my tube several times before getting an insane desire to crawl into my net.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Spiderman was "snakebit" on the kitties. He had to leave early and was only able to score a few of the pesky white bass. But, I think he enjoyed fishing more than staying at home. At least he said he did. But, we all know how fishermen lie.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Road usually acquits himself well on the kitties at Lincoln Beach, but he had a slow day today. As soon as I "found" some fish in deeper water I hollered him up on the walkie talkie and suggested he move out to the deeper water where I was. That got him into his first kitty...a quadruplet to the three 24"ers I caught out there. A nice fish that put a whuppin' on him with the ultralight rod he was using.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]We had a beautiful day weatherwise. Untypical for a "road trip". There were only light breezes, but they kept changing around and before the day was over (for us) we had breezes from every point of the compass. As is usual for Lincoln Beach, fishing dies whenever the north winds blow. And that is what happened about 11:30...just after I had caught my fifth and final kitty. The north wind factor was "helped" by the sudden onset of power squadron nonsense. Ski boats, wakeboarders and PWCs all figured that since the tubers were in our part of the lake it must be a good place to have fun. Yeah right, fun for them...not for us[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]We shoulda, coulda, woulda got off the water before noon. But, us diehards had to try to prove that all of our previous experience and observations were wrong. Well, road did catch one more dink kittyfish...about 15". He checked with me by walkie talkie to make sure we were really fishing Utah Lake and not Willard Bay.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Nice trip guys. Let's do it again some more.[/#0000ff]

Love the pics, TD...looks like I have my work cut out for me; for both picture quality AND the fish catching.

I'll have to meet Road one of these days...he seems to take after you.

Those channels are nice. Catch them all on jigs?

[cool][#0000ff]You are always welcome to come down and join us on Utah Lake. You will giggle a lot when one of those bigguns pulls your toon around and leaves a wake behind you.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Road does not take after me. I run too fast. But, he is a good teacher and is larnin' me lots o' new stuff.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]The big channels respond a lot better to MEAT than to wimpy little jigs. There are many big cats caught on a jig and bait combo...with pieces of fish meat or crawler on a large jig. But, for consistent success we feed them chub minnows, carp meat and white bass meat...all legal and deadly. By the way, strips of yellow perch are also legal in Utah Lake and good for both catfish and walleyes.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]All of our cats today were caught on minnows. Neither of us caught anything but small white bass on the carp meat. Some times the carp meat is the only thing they will hit. Other times white bass meat beats everything else. You just gotta bring a "buffet", serve it all up and let the catfish decide what they want on any particular day.[/#0000ff]

Thanks for all the pics and all, but I have a question that has been needing someone to help me with. Who is all related on this forum? I understand Tubedude and Tubebabe, who is tubeson? and is flygoddess related to Macfly? I thinks it's great you all can hang out together like this![cool]

[Wink]Guess it is a little confusing. Tubeson (our son) is in reality TubeN2 ... other monikers you may see are Tubemom and Tubedad. Sorry about that.

Will let Flygoddess clarify her family ties!

[cool][#0000ff]I hope TubeMom (aka TubeBabe) explained it okay. I get Confused myself. But, at my age everything confuses me. I gotta go "codgertate" on being a grand-something. That ain't right. I'm still too young for that...I think.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]It is kinda nice to have such an extended "family" here. As I am sure you believe, we are all brothers and sisters under the external wrappings. [/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Reminds me of this old poem:[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[font "Times New Roman"][black]Many, many years ago when I was twenty-three,
I got married to a widow who was as pretty as could be.
This widow had a grown-up daughter
Who had hair of red.
My father fell in love with her,
And soon the two were wed.
This made my dad my son-in-law
And changed my very life.
My daughter was my mother,
For she was my father's wife.
To complicate the matters worse,
Although it brought me joy,
I soon became the father
Of a bouncing baby boy.
My little baby then became
A brother-in-law to dad.
And so he became my uncle,
Though it made me very Sad.
For if he was my uncle,
Then that also made him brother
To the widow's grown-up daughter
Who, of course, was my step-mother.
Father's wife then had a son,
Who kept them on the run.
And he became my grandson,
For he was my daughter's son.
My wife is now my mother's mother
And it makes me very blue.
Because, although she is my wife,
She's my grandmother too.
If my wife is my grandmother,
Then I am her grandchild.
And every time I think of it,
It simply drives me wild.
For now I have become
The strangest case you ever saw
As the husband of my grandmother [/black][/font]

[black]I am my own grampa![/black]

For a little more confusion, I am the TubeSon of TubeDude and TubeBabe (Tube Mom). FlyGoddess is my adopted sister and Macfly55 is now my adopted brother/ SoCal neighbor.

We are all just one happy Tubing Fambly.

Keeping that in mind and since Pokymon lives in ID, that makes you and Pokymon my adopted brothers.

That makes TubeDude everyones TubeDad but I just made him a Great TubeDad becuase my Daughter just had a baby. Check the post about the new Tuber.[cool]

Finally I get to get back onthe computer!! Started this the other night and we got company. The Mrs said I couldn't have any bad manners and had to go and entertain.

Oh Yeah another good outing with TD and surprise tubber Tlspyder13. I just love the wind comments where ever I go these days. Sheesh you'd think I had my very own wind making machine. One towed behind the truck just to give evryone experence in wind fishing.

But that was not to be Saturday, just a beautiful day to be on the water fishing with good friends.
I caught so many whities that day I went to BIG hooks and bait to keep them away. It slowed them down but they were presistant little buggers!

Can't really add much to TD's post except a few pics (getting better at bringing the camera). It was a great day fishing even if I didn't have a banner day with the kitties. Good company, great weather, and a bit of a challenge with the fish not jumping into the basket. Doesn't get much better than that.

Here's a couple pics of TD in mortal combat. Sorry Richard I still trying to remember to break the camera out when I do bring it. On the next trip I'll try and get a few of you working that stick of yours. Oh look your stuck with another Road fishing trip........... Yeeeeee Haawwwww.

Thanks for the compliment Lavaman. I am just a grasshopper compared to TD. I learn something from him on nearly every trip we have together. If I was more studious I might learn something on every outing. But then where would the fun be in that.... Just gets to excitied and wants to fish. If TD and I have something in common. It's the excitment we fell for the fishing trip. Hard to get to sleep the night before. I sure you know the feeling, Like when you were a kid waiting for the next big adventure with your dad, uncle, best friend. It still feels that way every trip for me.

AS far as getting together you would be more than welcome to join me o the water.

[cool][#0000ff]To be completely fair about it, I suppose Marty and myself have to share equal blame for the wind. Although lately we have had more nice wind-free trips than in the past, there was a long stretch where no matter what the forecast was, we had wind. It got to be joke. We had to laugh before we cried.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]...(Music)...And they called the wind Marty-riah.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Thanks for the extra pics my man. That haze really made it tough to get good clean shots.[/#0000ff]

Hey I thought that haze was the cameramans poor sense of photogoraphy.

Don't worry about the wind thing Pat. I think it's too funny. If ya can't laugh at yourself ..... everyone else will do it for ya! But we have had some beautiful trips this year. But now the windy season is arriving, along with the best fishing of the year. Hunker down my brother it's game time!
Had a blast in it today at LakeX (late start....wayyyyyyy late for me)
