Windy Day!
#1
Monday, 12/31/07- I new we should have stayed home when the high wind warnings were forecast. The little red pendant flag at the entrance to the marina was another clue. My friend, Doug said it was the only day he could get away. Don't expect more than a wet ride was my reply.

Arrived at Las Vegas Wash at dawn. Tossed the net a few times resulting in a few shad making it into the livewell. Wind did not make it easy.

Tucked into Hole 33 at anchor and ended up with three small stripers. Moved out into the channel hoping find bigger fish, anchored, started soaking frozen shad. North wind kicked up forming small whitecaps and slipped our anchor. Motored back out, dropped anchor again, slipped again. Repeated this two more times. It was time to go. Wet & Wild ride back to the harbor! Off the water by 10:30.

Wow, tell me about it!

I was there with my dad hoping to show him some Mead stripers. With the high winds we ended up trolling umbrella rigs. It was pretty squirley trying to keep the lines untangled as the wind forced us around. All told we brought in 4 fish, two of wich were 19-1/2". According to my dad the ride back was "fun" but he doesn't want to do it again.

I believe it[shocked] Been out there many times in those conditions. But you both caught more fish than I did at work today[unsure] Also the new sticker for the boat has not arrived yet. unfortunately the weekend forecast is RAIN[unsure]. It is strange that the shad have not gone deep yet. Keep up the reports. I hope to have some soon.

On wednesday, the cove on the Lake Shore Road side of Las Vegas Wash was crowded with 6-8 boats (mostly guides) and several shore fishermen tossing nets for shad. The water was murky and there was no sign of shad, however, everyone was catching a few. There were a lot of nets flying in that small cove. We caught about 30 after about half an hour of work, unlike 30 per toss a couple of weeks ago. Water temp. around 55 degrees. I think the party will be over soon. [Sad]

Most boats anchored out in the channel in the area around the mid-channel bouy near Gov't Wash. Everyone seemed to catch a few fish. We did okay untill the shad ran out, and that did not take long with three on the boat.
