Fishing the Deleware River in winter
#1
I have cabin fever ,and the river is not frozen. Do you think it's worth fishing it? I was thinking of using a fly rod with a full sink line and mending a small clauser around the bottom.

Very good choice for some of the species. I would also try a darker colored clouser for other species.[cool]

Thanks. I'll have to make a few darker ones. The river is hard enough to fish in spring, I think I'm in store for a long cold one.

I have fished the Delaware river a few times before. According to my notes, medium brown or pumkinseed as it is called, seems to work well.[cool]

The weekend was a wash. Winter hit hard 50mph wind gust made it a pleasant -15 degrees. I want out!!! Any work down in NC.

If I were you, I would get a plane to SC......Souther California that is. The coastal winds are only around 30mph but with the right gear and a little patience fish do bite.[Smile]

If you are fly fishing, you may want to try the Spey or even the Roll Cast to help you out.[cool]

The casting isn't the problem. I'm just tired of the cold. I'm waiting a snow storm out right now.
