How would people like to see lighted cast nets on the market, whether it be light attachments, or built into the net. This could be beneficial so you can see whats in your net when your doing some shrimping at night or whatever your using it for at night. Or possible so your can see better were your casting the net. This could be for all those who hate holding up a flashlight everytime you bring your net in.

I don't know about a lighted cast net. I see no dramatic benefit to using one. When i'm tossing a net, it's during daylight hours, and if not, i've got spotlights on my center console anyhow. I think if anything, it would take away from the stealthyness of the net during it's decent. Bait fish may become spooked as they see the light comming from above. A lot of bait is caught in the depths, like cigar minnow, menhaden(sometimes), or shad.

Mmmm, well, i've done my share of baiting shrimp, sein netting, etc..... I don't know how much of a difference it would really make. When we bait shrimp, it's usually in about 5' of water (once the tide moves out) or so. Nothing deep. I use a double leaded cast net that is taped in a strategic way(old shrimpers trick) as to keep the net open during it's decent. It's on bottom in a max of 2 seconds, and not many shrimp escape my set up. Most shrimpers in the area do it in the same way. Honestly, i'm gone to sien netting in the creeks. No messy baits, and in a couple pulls, you're good. I dunno, just my two cents.

Besides, what are you going to use for a light? Glow sticks would work, zip tie a few on there. But if the light is on the ends, then the target won't be attracted "in" the net. You'd have to mount a light source on the center ring of the cast net. That would be easy. Manufacture a cast net with a glow in the dark center ring. Hold it under the deck lights of the boat for a few seconds before you make a cast, and you've got a light in the center of the net. How's that for input? LOL

thats what i plan on doing or i also have led waterproof clip on lights. I patented this idea and im trying to sell to cast net companies, they say its a good idea but their not interested in making a new line of product so im thinking ill just do it myself. If this is a bad idea though i probably wont.

That sounds like a good idea for the states that allow sein netting.

I couldn't use that in my state since they are against the law.[crazy]

What he's actually talking about is cast netting, not sien netting. I'd be surprised if you couldn't use a cast net to catch bait in Cali. For many species of bait fish, that's the only way you're going to get them.

Well, you've got to look at need and how much are the cast nets going to cost versus how well they will work. Have you actually tested the theory to see how much better a lighted net works? I mean honest to god tested it, over and over, and measured the results? Have you tested it on various types of bait fish to see the effects? This is probably why the net companies aren't willing to take the risk, there's nothing backing the product to show it's effectiveness. In all truthfulness, it's a good idea. But, on that same note, I would not buy a lighted cast net. There is no advantage to it for me. A plain old double leaded net does the job in one throw, I don't need an additional advantage. Daddy always told me, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." Well, the conventional cast net isn't broke.

No cast nets either. We have to rely on the good ole Lucky Lura for self caught bait or get the bait at a landing that is allowed to use the Sein nets.[crazy]
