FC4 "Parcel Shelf" - Luggage Rack
#1
So with the lack of extra stuff space (sweatshirt, land shoes, extra tackle), and the wet well behind the seat being somewhat useless, I built myself a parcel shelf.

I used an old campaign sign, but any corrugated plastic should work fine.

I was limited by the size of the sign I already had so the "grain" of the plastic is 90 degrees from the way I'd rather have it, but it's a good solid prototype. I figure most stuff under 10 lbs distributed shouldn't bother it.

You'll notice if you look closely that even a tail wake splash through the peek-hole in the back will be diverted UNDER the platform so your stuff will stay dry for the most part. Also, by using the dual-lock (heavy duty velcro stuff) this part will break down flat for travel.

Simple, effective, low cost. You've a good suggestion there.
And the space underneath is still there so it can still be used via a drybag. [Smile]

[cool][#0000ff]A good idea, depending upon what you plan to carry and how. Most of us with the "trunk" behind the seat use it to stow a personal floatation device or a dry bag for things we do not want to get wet.[/#0000ff]

Heh... Second deck! Smile

I was thinking maybe a pedestal seat and a foot control trolling motor?

To tell you the truth I had never considered a dry bag. Maybe a soft-side ice chest or lunchbag. After searching for these things, they seem pretty useful for use in the "trunk".

PFD storage makes sense too!

Thanks again for the comments.

[cool][#0000ff]Those little softside coolers work well, especially with the refreezable ice packs. But, do not put a sandwich or other food items in anything that is not waterproof. More than one float tuber has reached for their munchies and found them waterlogged when not properly stored.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]The one admonition is to consider that "WHAT GOES IN, MUST COME OUT". Unless you plan to be on the water ALL DAY, do not take a full case of your favorite beverage. A bottle or two of water for hydration is usually plenty. Even then, you should seldom be so hot or so far away from your vehicle that you can't return to shore both for "intake" and "download". [#0000ff]If you go in a group, and fish mostly in the same general area, you can team up and stock a small cooler to stick in the middle of a small inner tube. Tow it out and anchor it where everybody can cruise in for a cold one when needed. Put the cooler inside a partially deflated tube and then air it up for a snug fit.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]The pedestal seat and foot operated trolling motor is something I have wished for before. But, there are limitations on available space and weight capacity. The batteries are heavy and bulky, and when you sit up on the pedestal seat you can get a bit top heavy. Provides cheap entertainment to the onlookers though when you go over backward on a powerful hookset.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Don't laugh at the second deck idea. Great place for the barbecue and the sound system.[/#0000ff]

Barbeque and sound system?

OMG this could be serious. Maybe you should reduce your dosage of Geritol for a few days. lol

I'd love to see "fire on the water"! Just chuck that fish directly on the coals?

Geritol, eh? Maybe just an amphibious landing craft for his Lark Scooter? Wonder if Medicare will cover it? Smile

[cool][#0000ff]Geritol? Not for me. My beverage of choice includes a salt rimmed container. Tough to get a good salt rim on a 55 gallon drum though.[/#0000ff]

All I recall from my childhood was what a funny name Evonne Goolagong was.

<LOL>
