Anybody fish Pelican today?
#1
Just curious as I am planning my first trip there this next weekend. Still trying to decide if I should take my bass boat or pontoons? Would like to get into the bass and bluegill. I'm intrested in flyfishing for the bluegill if anybody has any tips or pointers I would really appreciate it. Thanks for any help guys.

I havn't been there for over a week. Take your bass boat, it's a big lake and you will be learning it for the first time. If the high pressure holds, you should be able to nail the big gills with your fly rod shallow this next weekend. If the weather doesn't cooperate, just fish offshore with nymphs. Bass are very easy this time of year, and you should have no problems. Try a white Zonker for the bass. Fish should be in shallow and up on the beds by next weekend.

Thanks alot for the info Kayote. I'm assuming that the standard spinnerbaits and cranks and what ever else I want to throw will be good also for the LM as well? The wife will be going and she is still shy of the fly rod.

It's WFO on largemouths this time of year. Use your favorite method and it should work. If you can't catch bass at Pelican, it's just not meant to be. Ask B.A.S.S. for a refund and subscribe to HBO. LMAO

I guess I better dust off some spinnerbaits and some cranks then. Topwater is my favorite, how about some poppers and buzzers at Pelican?
