STRIPED BASS - This has been a downhill slide this week for the most
part. No area of local striper fishing has improved, just the opposite.
The only bright spot is Long Sand Shoal and reports of some bass trolled
up on Hatchetts. Some schoolies are still in the mouth of the
Connecticut River and more by the Thames. The bunker have been gone for
a week and it doesn't seem like too much other bait remains. I hate to
sound negative but I can get a peek at the fat lady in the wings. No
word on any herring run forming along the RI beaches yet. There were a
couple of schoolies on leadheads at Weekapaug yesterday.
Montauk has schoolies this week and reports of bass spreading along
the Long Island beaches following the migrating bunker schools.
BLUEFISH - A few reports of blues at Long Sand Shoal and Plum Gut
earlier this week. The last holdout historically has been at Rocky Point,
but theres been no confirmation of that yet this year.
BLACKFISH- Numbers are still good at most of the local reefs but the
sizes are decreasing. Most fish are still being caught in 30'of water or
less with water temps still in the mid 50's there might be a few weeks
left.Lots of shorts seems to be the norm.
BLACKFISH CONTEST STANDINGS
1st Place Rich Anderson 13.50 lbs
2nd Walt Budzyn 12.30 lbs
3rd Mike Kraemer 12.20 lbs
SEMINARS- We're starting to plan for some seminars and workshops this
winter. We'd like to get some input and ideas from you. Let us know what
you'd like to see this winter.
BONEFISH- Again we're traveling to Acklins Island in the Bahamas next
February to chase bonefish on some pretty awesome flats with some of the
best guides in the Bahamas. We have just one opening left, if you would
like to join us for a mid winter break call Pat at 860-388-2283.
