Lima Reservoir, MT.

I posted this on the montana board but didn't get any info so maybe one of you guys can give me some help. Has anyone been to Lima reservoir? Is there boat access there?

I saw it on the map and did some looking on the web and it has burbot in it and suckers, so maybe it would be a good place to catch some burbot. I didn't find much info on the Montana F&G website but maybe I will call them and see what I can dig up. It is closer than Clark Canyon Res. ( just across the Idaho border ) so maybe a better option for catching a burbot. Thanks, Jake.

i remember fishing around billings catching those burbot and we had no idea wtf they were. UNTIL NOW!!! googled, ugly sobs

Clark Canyon, North of Lima, has burbot and we catch them fishing with sucker meat. Excellent eating fish.

That would be good to know because I would also like to try to catch and eat a few burbot. And it is close even though it is out of state.
What about the lake by Ennis ?

Redleech, if you don't mind telling, where did you catch the burbot at Clark Canyon? Did you fish for them at night or just catch them while fishing for trout?

I haven't found anything else out yet Kent, but I will post it here when I do. I work at night so it is hard to get calls done during bussiness hours. Maybe I will just have to make a trip there this summer and try it out.

To my knowledge there are no Burbot in Ennis Lake.

[font "Arial"][size 2]Lima Reservoir isn't really a fishery and I don't know anyone who tries ice fishing there. We don't sample it so don't have any data on the burbot although we know that some do occupy the reservoir. Dewatering issues, high summer water temps, and concentration of salts (highly alkaline) from irrigation management render habitat and water quality pretty marginal. Large numbers of white suckers are the primary fish species in the lake. It is most definitely worth your while to drive 35 - 40 more miles to fish Clark Canyon for your burbot trips. Besides, the actual mileage and time difference is less than that as you would have to leave I-15 at Lima and drive a gravel road to get to the reservoir.[/size][/font]
