Gem Lake?
#1
I remember hearing about somewhere called Gem lake that I think had trout and panfish in it and even some small mouth. Is this anywhere around Idaho Falls/Rigby area? If so, is the ice fishing any good? Just wondering where this place is, if I even have the name right.

Gem Lake Dam is north of Shelley on the Snake River . To get to the Marina you turn off of South Yellowstone on the road south of the cemetery . I have not heard any fishing reports . Curt G.

Gem Lake is a dammed section of the Snake River just south of I.F. The directions given were good for the main marina. There is another boat launch near the dam as well. If you come off I-15 at dad's truck stop and take that road east you would cross Gem Lake. But just before getting to the bridge a road intersects that goes south. You can just take that and follow it until it reaches the dam. As for fishing reports I've hear nothing recent. I know it tended to be slow around X-mas but people were catching fish. Like other spots it can be fussy. I've heard of days where it's non-stop and others where you get nothing. As for species there are browns, rainbows, cutts, perch and smallies in there. I've caught all of those at one time or another except the browns. If you want to see it on the map go to www.lake-fishing.com and do a search for Gem Lake. It will bring up some details, a rating and show a google earth map image of it.

Thank you. I will try and hit it sometime this week if I get off work early. I'll make sure I post a report. Thanks again

Down the res. and above the dam is a small willow covered island across the lake from the parking area. On one occasion my daughter and I stopped and walked across the lake to where one or two other parties were fishing. All of us fished with tip ups to either side of the island. While the fishing wasn't hot, we did land one rainbow about a pound or a little bigger. Believe we saw a second trout caught about 12" or so.
