Looking at the current posts it seems to be mostly Southeast Idaho folks hanging out here. Any Southwesterm Idaho folks here?
Anybody fishing closer to Boise right now? ( I'm in Caldwell) Doing any good?
My last outing was float tubing at Clear lake. Caught a real nice 22" rainbow. That's the only place I know of fairly close by to take a tube or pontoon right now.
Struck out on steelhead last month up on the Clearwater near Harpster but that's steelhead for you. Dyas of nothing then sconds of plenty.

I grew up in Eagle and just recently moved over to SE Idaho for my dads job. I loved fishing the Boise River during the winter. It is by far my favorite time to fish it. As far as a tube or toon goes, and dunno of anywhere really. I think the trophy trout pond in Nampa you can take a float tube in. I did before and never got into any trouble anyone there. It can be a lot of fun. The South Fork of the Boise and The Owyhee over in Oregon are also good winter options. Hope that can help a little.

Nampa checking in.
I live near Wilson Springs (probably the most frequently-planted fishery in Idaho) and am hoping to get pretty serious this year. I made many trips to Lucky Peak / Arrowrock last year and just fiddled around with my canoe. We certainly caught fish there, but it was 10 to 1 squawfish vs. trout.
My favorites places: Trinity Lakes (Elmore County), Lost Valley Res., Sage Hen, and the greatest family campground / fishery of them all, Horsethief.
Trips planned this year: Red Mountain Lakes (above Lowman). Rice Lake / Long Lake (upstream from Warm Lake). I'm also going back to the Independance Lakes in Cassia county to catch some arctic grayling. Truly a hidden gem in Idaho that few seem to have heard about.

I live between Nampa, Kuna, and Meridian.
I haven't tried it in quite a few years, but most winters you can get a tube on Anderson Ranch near the dam. I used to catch a lot of trout during the winter there.
I have also had a tube on the Wilson Trophy pond (and the smaller ponds for that matter). Used to catch some very nice trout there (on the Trophy pond), but I think it has had most of the fish poached out of it, so I don't go over there very much. I will often take my grand daughter over and fly fish the north pond from the bank and let her help me bring them in. We always get a few.
Won't be long now until you can get a tube back on places like Horsethief, Herrick, Sage Hen, etc. I generally don't do much spring fishing as I have been pursueing turkey most years, but I think that I am going to give it a year rest. There weren't many turkeys left after the big winter kill last winter. I plan on doing more steelheading and salmon fishing instead.
You western guys give me a PM if you want to go do something some time. My work schedule allows me to do a lot of hunting, fishing, etc.

I'm in Meridian and fish mostly for bass.
I'm the president of the Gem State Hookers Bass Club and we fish SW Idaho and Oregon waters for our tournaments. We are a small club and are always looking for new members. In fact, one of our members is looking for a non-boater to fish with him this year. It's a good way to learn how to catch bass.
I'm anxiously waiting for the weather to warm up so I can get out there and catch some bass. Probably hit some of the small ponds around here as soon as they warm up.
Also get out and do a little whistle pig hunting shortly.

Hey Homie! I was born & raised in Nampa. Graduated from Nampa High even!
Are these lakes all pack in lakes? I know Rice & Long are. Never heard of Red Mountain or Independance Lakes. Are they pack in lakes too?
Horsethief can grow some BIG fish if they would manage it differently. I fished it on the very first day it was open when I was a kid. It opened on Memorial day about 1970 or 1971 , something like that. We were catching trout up to 6 pounds in our float tubes that weekend.

I've tubed those places. small fish in most of them. How has Little Camas been lately? It can grow some nice ones.
I'm looking forward to fishing the weed line at Lake Lowell this spring. Quick, easy & pretty fun. We can meet out there sometime if you don't mind fishing with a Jesus Freak.

Been into Paddock lately? I hyaven't fished it since it went dry the last time. The Bluegill were so big that last year it was almost hideous! The Largemouth bass were pretty nice too. Are the fish back up to decent size?

Hey a Bass Master!
I am familer with the Gem State Hookers. I tournament fished with Intermountain Bass Anglers for 15 years in the 80's & 90's. I fished with Joe Hoffman, Doug Jenkins, John Robertson, Jerry Roberts and that bunch. You might know one or two of 'em.
I would recommend being a "non-boater" to any of you who have not done it. It taught me a ton about bass fishing and made me a better all around fisherman.
Plus you make some pretty good friends.
I kinda got burnt out on it after 15 years and now mostly fly fish but & do go out with a bassin' buddy now and again and sore lip a few toads!

Camas has only been producing smaller fish in recent years due to poor carry over from lack of water. Alas, we had salvage fishing in November again because of an expected winter kill.

Born and raised fishing throughout SW Idaho. Boise's got some bomb spots right through town. Dunno could prolly start working some bass out of the gravel ponds soon inbetween Vets. and Quinns. There are some healthy hawgs in there. As for trout, Boise River hands down, whether its through town or on the North, Middle, or South Fork. Can't go wrong.

I fished Paddock last summer around August. We caught about 30 or 40 crappie, all about 7"-8" ten bass or so in the 8" range, And I caught one nice Largemouth 17" 6 Lbs or so. We only fished from 9:00 AM to noon or so. If I hadn't moved I definitely would have hit it again.

You know I have not fished the Boise River very often and really should try ir more often. I have never fished any of the ponds in & around Boise. I work in Garden City now so maybe I should check some of them out. Any good spots in Garden City?

That sounds real encouraging. Did you try back in the hyacinth (weeds) for largemouth?

I was raised in Mtn. Home but have moved to SE ID (Oct 08). I grew up on Strike, Anderson, and Little Camas. We use to fish Magic and Mormon Res. when I was young, but Strike/Snake and Anderson more than anything....oh yeah, fished the South Fork Boise alot when I was younger. But, I've found a nice trade off moving, I only live 45 mins from Henry's Lake and several other really good fisheries.......no big bass though[frown]

I didn't go to the backwaters at all. We just had my little fish hunter raft and a couple paddles so we didn't venture out too far. So I guess mostly the area by the dam on the far side. Also I fished it a day or two after a real big rain storm came through the whole area, so the water was straight up brown. I wasn't fly fishing like usual, just throwing out pumpkin/brown colored rubber worms with the curly tails and with a couple bullet weights up top. Bass fishing is about the only time I spin fish. I just love feeling a big bass nail my line as it is dropping. About 90% of the fish were caught on the drop. If you are looking into catching some bass I would recommend Swan Falls on the Snake. I had numerous 200+ fish days. The only bad part is that most of them were only 11" or so. Still those little smallmouths always put up a good fight. Sorry for the long winded answer to such a simple question, I just get so excited thinking about catching those big bass. I just came back and edited with a couple pics from Paddock

Oh yeah FFF those are some nice ones! That's worth the trip down that long washboard road. Looks like I'll give Paddock a try this spring.
I have always been in a bass boat when I have fished paddock. I don't have a boat any more so I plan on tubing it. How far to the back of the lake does the road go?
