The IDFG report says 7 hours per fish from Salmon to Ellis, so I can't take it any longer. I'm outta here! Anybody got the latest hot spots for me? Or am I on my own.[sly] I figure with that report I can do some hole hoppin' and pick one up here and there.

I think you're right about calling first. But I've been watching the water levels pretty close because I'm heading up there in a couple of weeks. I just checked and two days ago it spiked up almost 200 cfs to just over 1200, but it's back down to just over 1100 which is close to what it was before the spike. But depending on the ice conditions the spike could have brought a surge of fish. I'm definately jealous and wishing I was going this weekend. I just got a new Redington CPX 8wt today, so I NEED to break it in!

I wouldnt head down to shoup, I think dead water is turning up the mud pretty good. The ice was out past the store as of sunday. Its only 6 miles past that and drops in elivation pretty fast. But check it out if you can i would like to head up just after it goes out.
When I was out there the hot hole seemed to be Red Rock just above 4th of july creek.

The river report says its cloudy below deadwater and clear above. And with these conditions I don't see the river being unfishable above the Lemhi. But, you never know until you get there. I'm just going for a day, and maybe a half, so I doubt I'll be going down river anyway. Besides, some of the best fishing has been above Salmon so I think I'll focus my efforts in that direction. Maybe I'll run into another BFTer? That usually ups your chances, double the water fished[cool]. Anyway, if you hear the river is brown before tomorrow, let me know. And I'll do the same.

I call either shoup, northfork, or the sporting goods store in Challis depending on where I'm going. By the way, I fished Sat. and Sun. and from Ellis upriver was slushy or still frozen over. From Ellis down it was clear but cold, the fishing shut off. I had one fish on in two days, and saw one caught. When I got there the water temp was 32 and when I left sunday afternoon it had reached 34, I wished I could have stayed a few days longer. A couple more degrees and things should have heated up again. The deadwater blew Friday night so down river should be good soon. I think I'll wait to head back until mid next week. I also watch the IDFG steelhead report for hrs/fish. Sorry no pics this trip.
