Ririe 3-7-09
#1
Made it up to Ririe this morning, only fished until 10, trying to save up my brownie points so I can go Steelheading. The ice is still plenty thick, at least 12 inches of solid ice, a few people even got their fourwheelers onto the ice. The fishing was really slow, six of us up there and we caught 2 fish. There was several schools swimming around but we couldn't get them to bite. One school came in at 40 feet so we all dropped down and then they moved up to 20 so we all brought our rigs up and then they dropped back down [crazy]. I think somebody super glued their mouths shut or something. The guys I fished with went up yesterday and they were only a couple short of their limits. So the ice is still plenty safe and there are plenty of fish in there yah just have to have the magic touch.

Did you see how they were getting the 4 wheelers on the ice . Someone said you had to walk down and out on the boat dock to get on good ice because there was open water out a ways from the bank ? Thanks Curt G.

They got them on going down the west corner of the ramp. It seems the water there froze hard enough, I saw several other people walking over it as well. It was about 10 degrees when we got there and looks like the immediate forecast is going to be cold for a few more days. So we might still have a while of good ice up there after all.

Maghunter,
Do you fish for koke's through the summer, or just on the ice? If so, what are the best places to try in SE Idaho?

I got a small boat last year and started learning how to troll. The only place I caught any kokanee was Rire. We did well using small flashers or dodgers with wedding rings tipped with shoe peg corn. It can be fairly fast fishing up there, especially in the morning. Once all the water skiers show up the fish go down deep and its harder to find them. The fish only get bigger as the summer goes on until they spawn. Jackson Laker is the authority on Kokanee in PaliSades, there are some really nice sized fish in there, but I never had any luck.
