I heard about it in the paper here. I can't find the paper but I know it is a rainbow trout derby. There will be a prize for the smallest rainbow, biggest rainbow, and largest whitefish. I think they may have been another prize but I cant remember. It started at 9:00 or 9:30 I believe at a fly shop which I don't remember the name of either. If I find my paper I'll post more. Or someone else can Smile

Do you know how popular this event is. The beauty of fishing that river this time of year is no crouds. I will still probably fish it regardless, but it would be nice if this derby is a small one. I have a few great beds that the rainbows will be on about this time of year. I guess I am just greedy, LOL.

I have no idea how popular it is. I do know that I always have a few spots that I don't see anyone else in. So even if you aren't fishing in the derby I'm sure you will be fine. Its one large river. The only fish I ever seem to catch are whitefish and browns, then the occasional cutt. I have only caught a few rainbows in the time I have fished the river. I find it a little interesting that the derby is right during their spawn, I guess they really are trying to get rid of all of them. Personally, I would rather catch a big fat rainbow than a cutt, but thats just me. Rainbows have a heck of a lot more fight in them and are also a much smarter fish.

I heard a little from work that Trout Unlimited is the one putting this on. Might check into that.

You guys are referring to the SF of the Snake, right? Not the SF of the Boise?

To the folks in East Idaho; there is only one South Fork. They call grouse 'pine hens' too...

Don't forget the pine hens are also known as "fool birds" over here [Smile]
