How many flies?
#1
I don't have an Idaho Proc. so maybe some one can tell me. In Utah we can only fish two flies at a time (one rod). I read on another forum that Idaho is five. Is this true and is it all Idaho waters?

This is the exact wording from the Idaho proclamations. Also 5 rods with 5 hooks per line may be used when ice fishing in most Idaho waters.

ICE FISHING is the key word there. I was thinking more rivers and certain lakes. I know Daniels and Springfield are posted at TWO, but like Chesterfield or even Henry's. I am talking open year not Ice Fishing.

I am pretty sure that you can have up to 5 hooks on your line except where otherwise stated in the regulations for specific waters. In Dimtrap's response he pointed out that even with the 5 ice rod rule you can have 5 hooks on each rod as well.

Does a treble hook count as three hooks or just one? For example a Rapala with two trebles, is that 6 hooks or just 2?

I asked the same question here in Utah and the answer was ONE LURE. How many hooks is on one lure doesn't matter.
Heck, one Treble would be illegal here as we have only a two hook law[laugh][laugh][laugh]
So a treble counts as one, but if there are two on a Rapala, or even when we use flies with stingers, they are ONE.

i wish i had known that you could use 5 hooks on a ice pole. I thought that i had read earlier this year you could only use 1 per ice rod. Sure would make finding the fishes depth easier.

When you tie 5 hooks do most of you put swivels for each extra hook or do you just tie it up your line. I fished with 2 hooks were you put a swivel but would like to know how to fish 5. I have done 4 at palaSades below the damn but they are very small and you just put them up your line.

I ice fished with a herring rig this year that had 5 hooks. Several times I caught 2 kokes at the same time. I had never seen a herring rig until I went to Alaska last year. We used them to catch bait before trolling for silvers or fishing for halibut. They work great if you put a lure or weight on the bottom and jig them.
