IN GENERAL: Sam and Lyra Talarico, Mohnton, PA, just finished a two week photo shoot and when the scales cleared they were headed home with fifty some- odd rolls of exposed film. He has topwater and underwater shots of everything from striped marlin to bonefish including Greg Pike’s, (Coeur d’Alene, ID) nice twenty pound rooster landed from the beach taken on a “Chivo Lisa” pattern. This pattern was created by one of our guides, Lance Peterson, and has been one of our best producing rooster flies.

Mark Harpin, Norco CA had a tuna-bonanza Friday when he and a friend landed over twenty tuna on the fly. In between the tuna they also found a few dorado and even a striped marlin that couldn’t resist a See Thru Deceiver that swam by. All in all this week’s fishing was what East Cape is all about. Beach, Inshore, Offshore, take your pick they all had their moments.

· OFFSHORE: Tuna, tuna, tuna and not far off.

· INSHORE: Roosters and pompano from the lighthouse to La Ribera.

· BEACH: Lots of shots at quality fish with enough catches to keep your interest up. Jane, from Seattle, hooked a small bonefish from the beach yesterday only to have a rooster with dorsal exposed a foot above the surface charge in and grab the hapless bonefish and head for Mazatlan with it.

BILLFISH – Striper count up, more sailfish, first blue of the season. Here comes summer.

YELLOWFIN TUNA – The footballs are growing up and there are plenty of them.

DORADO - Big rascals, just not many.

ROOSTERFISH – If you don’t have a sore arm by the end of the day you aren’t paying attention

SIERRA – Still a few at Punta Area, so much for being a winter fish.

IN GENERAL: The Entrada is continuing to produce some mystery bites that keep breaking everyone off. Also, a few yellows under the bird schools keep boats racing to and fro. The halibut bite in skinny water near Punta Belcher is still going on with multiple catches of flat rascals to ten pounds. Esteros yielded good catches of corvina, a few grouper, cabrilla and pompano. Outside 240 degrees fifteen miles some large tuna were found but few have tried to get there because of high seas.

IN GENERAL: Quality fishing is still the rule. The sailfish are not being caught in the numbers we have had the last couple of weeks, but there are not many tourists fishing either. The entire fleet only consists of about 10 boats a day going out.

Captain Mecate on the cruiser Aqua Azul had a great two days on the water. The first day he hooked and landed an estimated 250 pound blue marlin and lost another. The second day, he hooked and landed a 300 pound blue. All three fish were hooked by slow trolling a live bonito. The second day fish was taken only two miles off the beach.

Fly fishing client Rand Bergstrom of the Twin Falls, ID area fished with me on the panga Gitana. We took 8 school sized tuna. Six came on the troll, but two of the nicer fish were taken on my 16/17 wt Cam Sigler rod and Ross Big 8 reel.

The inshore jack crevalle action has been outstanding. A few more roosters are being taken, but again, there are not many people fishing.
