I hit the southfork up above Swan Valley on Wednesday for a few hours and only caught one fish. It was a 22"-23", real fat and plump rainbow and it was a lot of fun to catch. Didn't get any other bites all day. I took a picture on my cell phone but a text came through as I was releasing the fish and the picture didn't save Sad I was going to post about it on here. Unfortunately I wasn't fly fishing because I was going up to go try and ice fish at paliSades but changed my mind. All I had was a little rod I use for ice fishing. I honestly didn't expect to catch anything, so I was pretty happy. If you are a fly fisherman, there were a couple pretty good hatches going on up below the dam. Good luck to you.

I am having the same thing occur on the south fork. I am fishing just below the Heise bridge and all that I can seem to get into are whities. Not complaining but I would like to catch some trout. Just wondreing what flies were you fishing with? I have been using wooly buggers and well some zebra midges and a few others but I can only get into whitefish. Any help would be so appericated.

Were you floating or walk in fishing? Where did you fish and how is access( ice, snow, etc.)? Did you see anybody floating and do you know if any ramps are accessible?

Fished above Heise today, had same problem, all white fish. I did hook a little rainbow, but he got off as fast as he got on. Snow is almost gone and no ice. Temp was 46 degrees today, but the wind made it feel like 25. There were 3 jet boats I seen and a few drift boats and pontoons. One place I was fishing I seen 2 jet boats hit rock trying to get through a diversion for a canal. I would not have my boat out there yet when the SF is this low. There were people every where. Looked like quite a few people put in above Heise near the end of the road. There were six trailers sitting there when I went by. Only seen one other person catch anything which looked like a rainbow about 15-16". Not a very good day. I hope it gets better.

yes there were people floating. i was in my waders and i start by the bridge and walk where ever my heart desires lol. i use rubber legs with zebra midge droppers or lightning bug this time of year. i have caught a few off of sanjauns this time of year also but thats if the trout can get it before the white fish. one thing i have noticed is that that entire stretch of river has changed all the holes where fish use to lay are now basicly not holes any more except for the givens like the big hole on the bend and the one under the bridge. man i cant wait for stone flys.
