Had the luxury of a calm weekend for a change. Wanted to go to Chatt to fish, but there were just too many events going on. But all the talk of fishing lead us up to one of our favorite spots at Camp Rockmont. Yesterday when we got there in the later part of the afternoon, I immediately slammed a nice 2lb'er on a Strike King Red Eye. He had it deep in the back of the throat. I thought it was going to be ON! But we could only manage a swipe or two... So, we ventured up to the old quarry lake, the third one in this chain. Found two employees of the camp sitting there fishing minnows on the bottom. Said they were catfishing, but "there are some HUGE crappies over there under those trees..." as he pointed down the shore to a point covered in blow downs. Well, after trying in vain for the better part of two hours trying to catch a bass. I started investigating the crappie option. I walked down and could easily see crappies holding along the shore. The guy looked at me and said "you got any stuff that will catch crappies? We're out of minnows...?" Dad and I whipped out the assassin's and went to town. It was cool to use the shooting technique in tight quarters. They had been there all day and only caught four keepers. We caught that many in 10 min. Went back today and had a blast. Love this time of year. And really can't wait to get back to the TN river. But there is something cool about gin clear waters where you can see the fish come into focus and then the white flash when they hit. I had a few bass jump out from under these trees to hit that assassin. Shooting technique won't work on a XR50 and my Citica...
