One week of reports will start from today,
Southern California Saltwater Report
June 3, 2003 (Tuesday)
Way Way Up North- Moro Bay
Nothing
Up North- Channel Islands
Pacific Eagle with 30 got 90 barracuda.
LA Area- Catalina Island
Not a lot of 3/4's going to the island so it's mostly six-pacs and overnighters if there's enough anglers.
Further South- San Clemente
It must be pretty good because almost nobody putting out information that's easy to get. translated easy=free.
San Diego- Coronados
I think that the yellowtail bite bit the dust and the barries aren't that hot either. It looks like most boats are stayin local for he bass and barracuda pick. Some Yellowtail and WSB are being caught.
LA Local
Barracuda bite was good at the Huntington Flats and outside the Rigs.
A bunch of boats from down Newport way were traveling all that distance.
The boats included the Western Pride, So Cal, Pierpoint, Native Sun, Victory, Enerprise, Persuit, etc. It gets a little crowded.

Report for June 4, 2003 (Wednesday)
Way Way Up There-Moro Bay
No boats no reports
Up North- Channel Island
Only 1 landing had a boat go out. So so results
LA Area- Catalina Island
Again, as the local fishing was so good, few sporties ventured to Catalina. Of course some smaller boats and six-pacs did OK.
Further South- San Clemente
Not many reports and their are showing only moderate success on the Yellowtail.
San Diego- Coronados
The missionbelle did good on barries and yellows. Boats that were local did moderately well on the Calicos, Sandies, and Barracuda.
LA Local
22nd, Pierpoint, LA Harbor, Davey's Locker, and Newport landing all have 200-300 barracuda. LB Marina had over 450 fish.

ALBIES STARTING TO SHOW AGAIN!
CATALINA PUTS OUT LOTS OF WSB AND YELLOWS.
BARRACUDA COUNTS DOWN.
Way Way Up North
1 boat out 1 fish caught from Chris's
Up North- Channel Islands
Island Tak and Pacific Clipper did OK on the bass and a few other species.
LA Area- Catalina Island
Tide Change, Westerly, El Dorado, Phantom all got WSB and 3 out of 4 got yellowtail too.
Further South- San Clemente

San Diego- Coronados
Missionbelle and Pacific got lots of yellowtail. The local action in SD was fair but the catch was a real mixed bag.
LA Local
Redondo Special is STILL getting WSB in both the AM and PM runs! The barracuda bit is down with just a couple of boats getting 3 digit counts on the slimers.
Royal Star go 80+ albies down south.

Way Way Up
NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING
Up North- Channel Islands
Nothing special going on with only one landing putting out a boat.
LA Area- Catalina
Busted wide open today with many boats getting limits of WSB limits, limits!!!! as well as yellowtail. Who?! Phantom, Old #7, Truline, and Persuit among others. Every boat mentioned got both WSB and YT's! I guess everybody realized the barracuda bonanza was over!!
Further South- San Clemente
Where!?
San Diego- Coronados
There was a mixed bag caught by a number of boats that were fishing in close but no special bite at the island.
LA Local
No one did great on the barracuda today although the Calico count was starting to gain from the last two days!
What!! no Redondo Special WSB news today????? I may have just missed the notice.
You can bet Catalina will be a busy place tomorrow and Sunday!

Wow is the only word! Over two thousand barries taken with Long Beach Sportfishing boats taking over a thousand!! The pierpoint southern cal wasn't too shabby with over 200 either.
LOTS OF FISH BUT LLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOTTTTTTTSSSSSSS OF PEOPLE ON THE BOATS WHO CARE ABOUT MAINLY GETTING A LIMIT or TWO, NO MATTER WHAT! WEEK-ENDS ARE LIKE A VERSION OF EXTREME FISHING AND I AIN'T GOIN'. THOSE WHO DO, 'YA'LL FISH CAREFUL OUT THERE, YA HEAR'.

[cool] hEY RON,
WOrked on the Victory all weekend and went on a twilight on Saturday night on the Native Sun!!
The BASS chewed on the twilight it was soooooo freakin wide that I saw bass swimming around before we even started to chuM!!!
I ended up with 32 sand bass with 2 on bait and 30 on plastics with my biggest just under 6 lbs. JP fish was 9lbs and the guy had two that size!
Cuda chewed again for us and it was a near limit day for us( I got 3 hours of sleep last night! and worked!) Had a light load today for some reason, only 35 people compared to yesterdays 65 or something. Had 289 yesterday and 255 today. Bass bit good for us and we had around 50 calicos today.
The sandies bit yesterday on the iron and almost all of them were accidents.
Come out on Sunday, light loads and awesome fishing!

Ps. the PURSUIT couldnt find a cuda if it jumped into their boat today!! And the ENTERPRISE is the slowest boat on the coast!! We passed them up and waved as we ran up on a bird school!!!

thats the count for the past week. I dont know what you are talking about aaron.... no barracuda huh? got those counts from www.sportfishingreport.com check it out for yourself.
I read in the paper today that 22nd street got 24 white seabass, 4 yellows, a bunch of bass, and barracuda. i think the yellows and the seabass were caught at clemente though.

Way Up There- Avila
The boat that went out got a few Coho
Up North- Channel Islands
There were enough passengers to make good counts on a mixed bag.
LA Area- Catalina Island
Freedom, Jaw Breaker, Phantom, Tide Change all got awesome counts i.e. LIMITS on WSB. El Dorado got some YT's too.
Further South - San Clemente
Decent numbers of fish caught but few to report the numbers.
San Diego- Coronados
As there were decent loads today, the counts were pretty good on a mixed bag of bass, barracuda, etc.
Local LA Area
Although the count wasn't that spectacular on barries in SMB the bass count was decent. The bite was again awesome or the boats out of Long Beach and San Pedro. The Victory with 281 gars, the Native Sun, and the City of Long Beach had limits of fish. The Pierpoint with 270 and the Sol Cal were hot as they could be.
The Barrie count tapered off further south if the Davey's Locker and Dana Wharf numbers are any hint.
I'm goin' Tuesday and Wednesday and I hope the bite doesn't cool off!

nothing impressive and nothing that isnt on the pursuit's fish count. but hey... lets stop. its a hassel copy and pasting from the fish count websites. I'm not doing that anymore.

Look at teh number of people though on both of the boats. The VICTORY has more cuda with less people than the pursuit with 44, 75, 44, 51, 25, 48 Compare3d to the VICTORY with 38, 64, 25, 47,17, 48,24, 34, 16, 21! [cool]

Channel Island Sportfishing Center did OK overall
LA- Catalina Island
FREEDOM with 23 WSB and YT did great. I sure the boats that went did OK with reports of WSB everywhere.
Further South- San Clemente
Where? I wish I could report something!
San Diego- Coronado
Nothing special on the local coastal boat or the island.
LA Local
A few boats like the So Cal killed the Barries and I suspect the Pierpoint didn't do too bad. Most boats got a mix of this and that with the major catches being calico and sand bass.

Report for June 10, 2003 (Tuesday)
Way Up North- Avlia
Patriot got 38 albies today
Up North- Channel Islands
Almost no boats got out! Catch was underwhelming!
LA Area- Catalina Island
The Legacy, Freedom(35),and Persuit(31)all got limits of White Sea Bass. Many boats at Catalina got WSB.
Further South- San Clemente
I will report when I get the information.
San Diego- Coronados
Calico, Sandbass and Barracuda made up most catches. No single species 100+ boats.
LA Local
Pierpoint got 69 Calico and 62 Barries but we caught a whole lot of shorts and plenty of fish were lost at the rail. Southern Cal did OK But...............
Long Beach Sportfishing really did the fish a job today The Victory got 257 Barracuda, The Native Sun got 200 Barries when you add together the AM and PM. The Phantom got 9 WSB and 3YT. The El Dorado got 13 WSB at Catalina.
Other boats than the above out near the Horseshoe didn't do nearly as well as 2 or 3 days ago.
On thing to notice is that the number of Sandbass being caught are starting to equal the number of Calicos. Could this mean the start of the Sandbass stirring to ready for the charge up the coast.
Going back out on the Pierpoint tomorrow!
