SpurHunter, Pickwick, Wilson, Wheeler Dam, Striper, whites, Cats, 3-23-09, Southerncats
A very sick Spurhunter (flu emoVomit ) made the VERY long early morning drive to Wilson dam to target some hot striper action with some friends of mine in Muscle Shoals. We met Mike at 7AM, (left here at 3:30 Central). I know Sam and Slo-ride killed them the other day, but it was not to be. After about 2 hours we gave up with a small salt and 5 nice whites, and a single drum. Tried some cats below Wilson, then put in above the dam.
We hit holes all the way up to Wheeler dam in some rough water. That is a long ride in a boat!emoEek
We bought some more jigs (lost all of them below Wilson) and tried the Wheeler tail-waters, with-out a single bite. emoBang Then more cat holes all the way down to Wilson again, hitting a few holes along the way. We finally managed the first and ONLY cat in the last hour. Gentry was closest to the rod and hauled in a very pale 35lb cat. emoDance emoApplause
Mike was a trooper and put up with my rookies getting hung on almost every single drift while striper fishing, I got hung my share, but these guys were relentless our Mike's inventory of jigs!emoLaugh Still a good trip on some new waters for me. Being gone for 19 hours was BRUTAL, so I am laying out all week from work. (Doc ordersemoParty )
Of course in true Spurhunter fasion, I drug the anchor rope against my keys and popped off my trucks alarm remote control into the lake...oh well.
