Snake River Help

All,

I looking for information on the water levels and clarity on the Snake River. I will be up there this weekend on Sunday and Monday. The areas I plan to fish will be any where from Shelly up to Heise or even the Henry's Fork near St. Anthony. Like usual, I will be hiking the shorelines and wading where possible. I normally fish the Snake from August to November. I have never fished it in the spring so I'm trying to get feel on water conditions now vs those time frames. I'll be driving up from Utah and would hate to waste the money due to poor water conditions.

Idaho is like my second home. My parents were raised in Firth and Basalt. Thanks for any input in advance.

I live near the South Fork and it is low and clear right now. Runoff really hasn't started yet. That could change any day. From what I hear people are doing well on the N. Fork as well.

Hope someone has some more specific information.

They are doing well around Shelley all the way down to Tildon bridge . Mostly with minnows . The water is a little off color buy clear enough to still catch fish . Curt G.

Pretty much the same here. Shelley to Tilden to Mctucker has been steady on levels running about 1900-2300cfs. Water has been clear unless the days get warm into the 50+ temps then it is a little off color. Fish still seem to be deep and minnows or worms seem the best. There are a few hatches starting and some fish are rising. Wade fishing is still very accessable at the moment all the way to Palies dam. Heise is running around 1300 cfs and the dam is running at 900cfs. I fished Heise a week ago and only caught white fish. Weather will determine much this time of year for fish, clarity, comfort level and water levels. Good luck and good fishing.

We usually fish with hand tied jigs. My biggest fish off the Snake was a 24" cuttbow caught just outside of Shelly with many browns in the 20-23" range. My partner in crime landed a brown that was close to 30" near Heise.

The Snake is one of my favorite places to fish.

I didn't think you were supposed to be able to use minnows in Idaho? I haven't used them out here...

you can't use live minnows, but dead ones are fine.
