1st Snake River trout this year
#1
I got the boat out today and got it ready to go. I am heading down to AF Res Saturday morning. After I got the boat ready I headed down to check out Rose Pond to see if there was anything around. I tried fishing for about 30 mins with no luck. A few other people there said they had only caught crawdads. I never seen a fish move or jump. Not much water left in there either, but I did not see any winter kill tho either.

Anyway, got bored so headed around the back side of the archery range to the Snake River. I was minding my own business when along came this critter to say hi.

This little beaver sat there cleaning himself for about 20 mins while I fished. This reminds me why I like living in Idaho. I finally hooked a trout and reeled him in. First trout from the Snake this year. A 21" Brown.

This was the only fish I caught in the few hours I was out, but fish like this makes it well worth the effort and quite enjoyable. I guess we will see what Saturday has in store for me at AF Res.

Well, today was interesting. We got down to AF Res around 8:00am. Water temp was 34.5F. We headed over to the dam and anchored in about 50' of water with fish on the finder. We tossed the worms and mellows out and waited. Nothing. After an hour we tried trolling for a while. I put on pop gear and rapalas and a few with just rapalas. We trolled around the dam and then down the west side. Nothing. Changed rapalas from brown trout and orange to rainbow and black/gold. Dropped the down riggers down, sat down, and bam, fish on. Nice little 2 lb rainbow. Reset and trolled some more. Nothing. About noon we headed over to the dock for a stretch. There was a guy there cleaning his fish.

These are about 4 lbs, the big one is a little over 9 lbs.

We headed out and tried to set anchor in the shallows, no such luck. The wind was to much. I had 3 anchors out and we still got pushed across the res. About 2:00 things called down a bit and we went back over to the west side and anchored. We chucked the worms over board and waited. About 10 mins later, Fish On. Nice rainbow @ 4.3 lbs and 20". Through him in with the other and tried again.

That was it. No more bites. The wind was most of the problem. We would have done better sitting on the shore. At least that way we could have seen if we had a bite. We seen a few others catch a few fish from shore there also by the dock. Still beat a good day at work.

Just to make it clear, the fish on the dock there are not mine. These were another guys fish who was there fishing on the bank. He was cleaning them when we pulled up. I just posted the pics of his fish so people could see what was coming out of AF.
