SF Snake Report W/Pics
#1
Fished the South Fork with DustPonds10 pretty much all day long today and had a lot of fun. Fishing was real slow at first. It was really windy and pretty cold. Things started to warm up a little and I hooked into a few whitefish. Most of the fish we caught were whitefish but I did manage to catch a nice hybrid and a little rainbow. I also got snapped off by a really nice sized cutthroat. Overall it was a fun day out on the water and good to make another friend. Also watch out for the moose with their calves. I snuck up on a couple of them on accident today. This is the second outing in a row I have had close encounters with moose.

Nice pics. Based on that second one you must have snuck up on it pretty close. If you keep doing that your wife is going to increase the life insurance policy [Wink]

Haha, let me define snuck up Smile I was fishing in a narrow channel that had high washed out banks and thick brush on both sides. I started walking down and saw a big dark speck moving out of the corner of my eye and realized it was a moose. I don't really like fishing around moose so I climbed a little tree to get out of the channel and high tailed it out of there. Then I walked over above the channel and saw that it was a calf and a mother. Scares me to think about what could have happened if I had kept fishing the channel.

Nice fish! Between me, chrome junky, and one more, we only caught one trout. It was a cut, pretty nice one. It was good to meet you up there. Slow day huh? Did you win anything? I was busy putting the boat away and didn't get a chance to come in a BS with ya.

It was nice meeting you too. It was a very slow day. Weird weather too. No I didn't win anything. Funny story though. I was told I was the only one who returned with a rainbow trout (other than one group). You know who beat me out? The people who guide on the river that worked for SF Lodge. Seemed like a huge conflict of interest to me. They float the river very often obviously. They know where a lot of big rainbows will be staging to spawn. Seemed pretty dishonest to me and I was a little disappointed. With that said It was still an awesome day on the river. No complaining here. I just wish I wouldn't have wasted my time getting scammed out and returning @ 5 when I could have fished til dark [Smile]

Ya that hole by the Falls was awesome. We were pulling out big whitefish every few casts for a couple hours straight. That is also where I pulled out my one rainbow. I hooked into something nice but lost it and also missed a couple other real hard hits. I think since the flows have been raised I may not be able to wade into there anymore. Good thing there is always Heise. Just have to keep an eye out for the moose. They are really thick in that area. It was nice chatting with you guys for a quick sec as you floated by. I recognized you from some of your steelhead reports. Maybe we can all hit the river some time.

I know that is a bit old but it was nice to go fishing with you as well. I had a great time eventhough I thought hat I was going to freeze to death after the first hour or two. We did have a good day and well lots of fish were caught. We will have to make a trip some other time either to the South Fork or Maybe even the North.
