Dry Bed Report W/Pics :)
#1
I fished the dry bed this afternoon til I couldnt feel my fingers anymore and had a great time. The fishing was so easy I felt like I was cheating somehow. Lots of people were out snagging and netting but I just stuck with my fly rod and wooly bugger. I had a lot of fun jumping from each pocket of water that had some fish in them. Ended up catching 17 or so, all browns but one. The only reason I kept some of the fish was because I figured they would all die anyways. I ended up giving them away to someone who would eat them more happily than me anyways. Good luck if you decide to check it out, It was packed today.

Nice fish. I have heard of the "dry" bead for a long time, but have no idea where it is. Can you tell me how to get there and where best to fish. Thanks

Thanks. This is the only time I have really fished the dry bed. I usually stick to the river. The way I get there is I head towards Heise. On that road that takes you there I turn right at the Mountain River Ranch. That will take you to the head gates. There are some other access points I guess but I haven't caught anything other than whitefish out of them. Like I said, today is the only time I have ever fished there other than throwing my line in for a couple minutes. I just went to check it out because I heard they had shut the water off. Turned out to be a good choice. I had a blast today. Hope that helps a little.

Wow that takes me back! Nice pics, I remember when I was growing up in Rigby and they would shut the water off to clean the gravel bars and brush out of the Drybed. The construction co my dad worked for had the contract for cleaning it from the headgates to almost Rigby. It was legal to take fish by any means, I would spend weeks riding on the cat and fishing each and every hole and puddle. If the fish were not biting dad would somtimes put me on the bank and make a push through the hole with his cat my job being to jump on the biggest fish he pushed up, somtimes it was hand to hand combat and I didnt always win. But we did get some real pigs out of there. And it was all fair game as all the fish would die anyhow. It was sure a great time for a kid, I dont know but I may be the only person on this fourm that has ever caught fish with a D8 cat. Thanks for the memorys

I have hit the dry beds many times. You have to hit it early like you did. I like to find Helgies under rocks and put them on my fly rod. Nothing like the real thing. Those browns wack them if there are any left in the holes.
