Any new reports from Strike? Thinking about going tomorrow, but haven't decided yet. Are the crappie moving into the shallows, or is the water temp still too cold?

Went last Sat caught 60 crappie between 3 of us around 20 feet to 30 feet deep. There staging in the deeper water just out side where they are going to spawn. Surface temp. 53. Biggest 13 inches long and around a pound. It was full of eggs not quite ready yet. Average 9 to 10 inches. Heading out Tomorrow to catch more. Temp. cooled off this week hope it didn't give them lock jaw.

First off, Elkhunter, welcome to the site. Second, congrats on doing well with the slabs. Were you in the Bruneau Narrows? I have heard that the trout fishermen are doing OK also. We were heading up to Lucky Peak today, and as soon as we got ready to hook up the boat, the rain started. Guess the kokanee will just have to wait a little longer for us! We are going to try and get over to C.J. soon. Any info would be appreciated, and I will certainly do the same in the future. Mike

Thanks for the welcome Kodiak1. It was the Snake river arm but yesterday they were biting everywhere including the narrows. We caught over 100 crappie in the snake arm and then we tried trolling for bows around and in the narrows without any luck but the boats in the narrows were also catching slabs one after another. I did catch a nice 18 inch bow while crappie fishing on a ultralite and white jig that was fun. Red and white or white jigs tipped with worm or not I caught them both ways. They still were in the deep water from 30 to 20 feet. Mark the fish, anchor and cast out as far as you like . After it hits the bottom reel in real slow right off the bottom until your straight up and down below the boat and just let it set for a while before you cast again. We caught them reeling and setting. I used two jigs on my line one at the end and the other two feet up. I caught doubles at least 8 times. Averaged between 7 to 10 inches. Remember they should start going shallower to spawn any time so watch for them there if you can't find them deeper. Overall we had a great day until I had to clean all of them but now I have around 10 pounds of fillets. Hope this helps

Nice report, elkhunter!
I hope to get down there next Sunday. This weather better improve, though. Gail force winds make for miserable fishing conditions. Don't get me wrong, I am not a fair weather fisherman, but anymore I'd rather stay home than struggle with 50mph winds.

That makes 2 of us. anything over 30mph is usually just asking for trouble and frustration.[mad]

Welcome Elkhunter1 & thanks for the CJ report! Are you Southwest Idaho? Nice to have a few more posters from this part of the state. I might head up there if the weather is decent like everyone else has said.

Yep from the southwest all right. One of the few locals still left. Raised and played in Idaho almost my whole life.

I'm from Southwest Idaho, too. Born in Nampa and graduated from Kuna High School in 1988. Maybe we can make more of a presence on these boards. Not to knock the guys and gals in eastern Idaho. I love to go fishing over there and enjoy reading their reports.
Best regards,
TB

Great to see more of us Southwest anglers on here. Welcome aboard to all.
I'm from Meridian. My wife just graduated from Meridian High after 30 years of trying. Well, actually she retired. [laugh]
So we are enjoying the good life. [fishin]

I am one of those Boise-ites. I'll do my best to keep my posts current.
I am more of an adventure based angler. I use a driftboat to get to those places that others would not imagine making an effort to access. My favorite float is from Linder Bridge to Star. Its tough going but its worth it. Next best is the main float through town (Boise). Third is from Swan Falls Dam to Celebration Park. 4th is is the lower Payette from the hydro plant below Horseshoe Bend to the upper ramp on Black Canyon Reservoir (through Montour).
River Smallmouth are my favorite fish. I want to learn more about the lower Boise by Fort Boise. Any input?

Dang those sound like fun floats! Linder Bridge to Star sounds real interesting. A one man pontoon should be able to make it. any portages? You are catchin' smallmouth?
I am I am all for fishing closer to home this year to save $$$. I plan on hitting Lake Lowell a lot.

Those float trips sound great. I love Smallmouth no matter river or lake. I've fished for river Smallies between Emmett and New Plymouth. Some great fishing holes in that area. I don't know if you can float it tho.
