Calling all Southwest anglers. Let's see how many we have on this end of the state.
I live in Meridian. My wife and I are retired. We also belong to the Gem State Hookers Bass Club. We own a Skeeter bass boat and fish all over the Southwest from Hells Canyon to Milner.
We also have a place in Cascade. Two wonderful kids, who really aren't kids no more as they are in their 30's. [laugh]
My son fishes the FLW Pro circuit.

I live in Boise and grew up in the Treasure Valley. I mostly fly fish and have done so since I was a kid, but I am not opposed to spin fishing. I just like to fish, and always have. I am anxious to get back into fishing for panfish and bass. I haven't done so in years, because I've mostly focused on trout. I am new to this site, but plan on becoming more active in the future.
regards,
Jeff

Raised in Nampa, Nampa High Class of '76. Live in Caldwell, work in Garden City.
Tournament bass fished for 15 years got burnt out on it.
Used to party, that burnt ME out. Found a relationship with Jesus & and have a joy that surpasses all understanding. Not religious, just love the Lord.
Great wife, kids grown & gone. Love all types of fishing. Been float tubing & flyfishing since I was ten. I can handle a fly rod, spincast or baitcast all equally well.
Can't afford a bass boat anymore so I now have a one man pontoon kick boat and a 12' portaboat with a 6hp evnrude.
Old, bald, fat, happy, guitar player![cool]

My name is Mike, and am a retired Psychology teacher. My wife, also a teacher, and I still teach court-mandated DUI classes, and I am an architectural tour guide at St. John's Cathedral, here in Boise. We love getting out in our Hewescraft and trolling for trout and kokanee, like panfish fishing, Henry's Lake, and Kootenay Lake north of the border is our latest great "find". My passion, however, is salmon fishing in the Straits of Juan de Fuca, out of Sekiu, WA. Especially excited for this year, with the best fishing since 1991 predicted. I am happy to finally see some people from the western side of the state joining this site. I just hope everyone remembers that to get you must give!! Remember to post results of your fishing trips, and that way others will do the same.

I grew up in Central Washington fishing Lake Roosevelt for trout, walleye, and smallmouth. Moved to Boise two years ago after finishing grad school. Still have a job so I'm considering myself fortunate right now! I've focused more on hunting since moving to the area, but tore up my knee this winter. I'll be sidelined for a while and am looking forward to hitting the fishing hard this spring (just bought a small boat). Have a lot to learn and am open to suggestions. My dad and I take an annual trip to Neah Bay to fish for silvers, but we're mixing it up this year and trying out La Push. I'm hoping to have some pictures to post before then...

I am 5th generation Clearwater County in North-Central Idaho. I was forced to the desert of the south because of employment. I left the state for a little over a year and I was very happy to get back to Idaho. I'm 30, married, we have a 3.5 year old girl and a nine day old boy. I am housebound for now so this site is my only real link to the outside fishing world.
Here is my modified cut/paste from a different post:
I am one of those Boise-ites. I'll do my best to keep my posts current.
I am more of an adventure based cast and blaster. I use a driftboat to get to those places that others would not imagine making an effort to access. My favorite float is on the Boise River from Linder Bridge to Star. Its tough going but its worth it. It's local and cheap. (I had some shitsticks steal everything but my oars out of my boat last year down at Linder Bridge so I don't know how 'cheap' the float is). Next best is the main float through town (Boise). Third is on the Snake River south of Kuna from Swan Falls Dam to Celebration Park. 4th is is the lower Payette from the hydro plant below Horseshoe Bend to the upper ramp on Black Canyon Reservoir (through Montour). Those are a few of my local floats. I would much rather be on the Clearwater River everyday. That's my home river.
River Smallmouth are my favorite fish. I want to learn more about the lower Boise by Fort Boise. Any input?

I'm in Boise, been here for about 20 years. Fish for just about anything that swims! Just bought a fly rod the other day-still waiting to catch a fish with it, frustrating! Anyway, married with 5 kids, fished just about everwhere but Lucky Peak and CJ are where I end up the most. I have met one member of this board on the ramp (Aluma65)-we need to get "handle" stickers made-it would be interesting to see how many people we pass on the water from this board! Mtnhomer-you probably know my wife, she lived over there pretty much her whole life, last name WAS Bender........

Born in Boise, lived in Poky for 11 years, central Oregon (John Day) for 5, back to Idaho in Nampa where I graduated from Vallivue in 85, moved off to Utahrd to go to college, moved back and have been working at Micron ever since (hope that lasts). I have fished everywhere I lived and a lot of places I haven't. Love to catch fish of any kind. Fly fish, tie my own, bait dunk, bank yank, jigging from a boat, Salmon when they are running, but mostly I hunt.
I have been used to having a lot of time off with a 4/3 day alternating work weeks, but now I am a 5 day a week guy, so I am going to have to cut a lot of my activities. [frown]. Just went to the Boise river, Linder bridge last night. I'll post a report in another thread.[ ]
Been married for 24 year, three kids, two of them grown, with 2 grand kids. My grand kids love to go to the Wilson ponds and I take them once every month or two.
I currently live in the middle of the triangle between Meridian, Kuna, and Nampa. I'd love to get together and go fishing with some of you....... PM me.

Born in Eugene, Oregon, I caught my first trout as a kid in a river over there.... I believe it was the Willamette, but I can't say for sure. Moved to Nampa 25 years ago when I was in junior high and I've lived here ever since, although i work in Boise.
I like to think I've fished most lakes and rivers of southwest Idaho at least once, but I'm sure there's plently of places I don't know about. Nowadays, most my fishing is done at Cascade and Horsethief, although I'm getting frustrated with the crowds. I'm in search of a decent trout hole that's accessible, yet not crowded. Don't think that exists. [ ]

Hello everyone, this is my first post, I finally did it and became a member after reading what you all have been writing for a while.
I am an Alaskan, born and raised, went to college at BSU, met my wife, moved back to AK. She didn't like AK much and we both missed Boise, so we moved back last year. I live in Meridian, I love to fish. My wife and I just had out first baby a couple days ago, so that's pretty cool.. I still plan on doing lots of fishing this summer... just maybe not quite as much as last year [ ]
I miss the fishing in AK but much to my surprise, I learned last year the scale fish fishing is ALOT of fun. I'm just not very good at it yet! and the gear is intirely different so I'm slowing building my collection of lures. I also like to fly fish, but I need to get a smaller rod for the fish here. I have a 6# which I used for Reds and Silvers. I guess it would work for larger steelhead.
Last year was my first year back in Idaho and I spent time at Arrowrock, Lucky Peak, Swan Falls, CJ and Brownlee. I think I had the best luck at CJ and Brownlee.
My boat is a Jetcraft 1925 Kingfisher, it's painted and has a soft top, so if you see my boat, feel free to come over and say hello. The sticker idea is a good one (as long as it looks good, I try to keep my boat looking good... and clean).
I still have a lot to learn about fishing here and I am always looking for people to go fishing with me. My main fishing buddy leaves for Portland this summer... bummer... I also work an odd schedule, so often I'm available to fish during the middle of the week when less people are on the water. So if anyone wants to go and needs a boat, (that gets good gas milage with a Honda 4stroker on it) don't be shy! I don't mind.
Thanks
Jared

I've lived in Boise for twenty years. I grew up as a kid catching bass and bluegill and caught my first trout in Colorado and never seemed to want catch anything but trout after that. Got to admit that anything that bites is fun to fish for, and that's the main point, to have fun right?
Steelhead are available in good numbers this year near Stanley. I drove up this morning and caught 2 in about 3 hours of fishing time. There seems to be many more wild fish along with the hatchery fish in the river this year, and that's a good thing!

Not sure if there's really that many more wild fish. The last few years the hatcheries started only clipping part of the fish and not all of them.

Lived in the southwest part of the state most of my life except when my job took me to places like Florida ,Colorado, Washington, because I worked for a government contractor. Did all my schooling here and graduated Borah in 79. Married too many times and got a couple of kids to prove it. One girl 23 years old and out on her own and a 5 year old boy with the current wife Mickala. She will probably be a keeper because she likes to hunt and fish and most of all she lets me. I had a 19ft Duckworth jet that I went in halves with my dad but when the little one came into the picture I had to sell my half back to my him but he does let me use it on occasion. I work for the State for now (knock on wood) and hope to retire from there in around 10 years
I like to fish for just about everything and have caught shark to freshwater lingcods and everything in between. I believe in only keeping what you'll eat. Best fishing was an 8pd walleye and a 5pd 13oz smallie Banks lake Wash. Then the 57 inch sturgeon on the mouth of the Columbia was a blast too. I've fished most of the state but mainly the west side. I know there is a lot more to fish so I joined this forum to help and be helped.
My biggest passion right now is bow hunting for big game. I like the solitude and more of a one on one with the animals at close range you can't beat it.

Living the dream in Mountain Home. Will retire here if all goes according to plan. Retired from the USAF 5 years ago and moved to Idaho in 2008. My favorite type of fishing is small stream fishing but also like high mountain lakes too. Have been planning my 2009 trips and they include: Queen River and North Fork of the Boise, Jarbidge River, Heart Lake on top of Iron Mountain, any stream near the Lamar Valley in Yellowstone and many more. Likely won't get to all of them this year. Kind of looking for info on Jacks Creek but it seems like a beast getting into that canyon. Overall, I want to fish "where the people ain't and the fish are". Catch and release only as trout and my taste buds aren't friendly towards each other.
Married to a wonderful lady who just likes to see me enjoy my life while she does her own thing.

Good point and it definitely makes sense, I never really considered that they actually are hatchery fish that just didn't get clipped. I brought a friend from out of state up to the Yankee Fork during Memorial day weekend in 2007 and while we were goofing around catching stocker Rainbows in the dredge ponds, we saw a pair of Steelhead in one of the connecting streams. Got to figure that those were definitely wild fish since there's no hatchery up on the Yankee Fork.
I was fishing in one hole on the Salmon below the Yankee Fork two weekends ago when a guy and his son showed up and started fishing more or less in the same spot I was in. That's one of the interesting dynamics of Steelhead fishing and I know it turns a lot of anglers off. I didn't really mind because I'd already caught a couple fish plus I love to see when a father is out trying to teach his young son how to fish. The guy proceeded to catch 4 fish in about 30 minutes, which was pretty impressive considering how many hours I've logged on that river historically and couldn't even catch one fish let alone 4. He did end up having to release 3 out of the 4 because the adipose fin was still intact.
What's interesting about that whole fish for Steelhead where ever you want mentality is that in general, the fish are all typically migrating towards the hatchery.
I don't know that any one hole in particular is any better than another, as long as you're patient, there will be fish swimming by you eventually. I don't suppose you could convince the mob that are all lined up along the shore at Sunbeam that there's any truth to it though!
