Woke up early and couldn't get Sam up but eventually made it to the lake around 8:15am. The wind was light and conditions cloudy with the sun peeking through. First stop was a deepwater flat about 10 -12 feet. Slow rolled a spinner bait and first cast nice fish but I must have still been asleep because he came unbuttoned at the boat. emoBang Hook set..;. Hook set... Hook set... Fished the flat hard for another 15 minutes and hooked another nice fish which jumped and threw the hook. emoBang Sam is laughing but hey he hasn't hooked anything yet. Motored up to the next flat. No luck at all. Went back into a cove and tried shallow top water and crankbaits - nothing happening here either. Frustrated grabbed my crappie rig and boated 3 nice bluegill. emoCool Hey I am on the board but Sam says that doesnt count. Try a crappie hole and nothing there. Motored back to another cove that has some 6-8 ft water and no luck. Found a flat on the main lake and get a few bites - I can't hook up! emoScratch Sam gets what looks like a big bite and a sliver fish appears next to the boat - It is his second trout from the lake this year - 15 inches! Caught near Island Cove on a worm! emoDance I will post a picture later. Made for a great lunch. I guess it is a good thing we both have trout stamps! Sam is pumped. I switch to a worm but can''t quite match the color. He hooks up to something big. This will be our biggest bass of the day - goes 3 1/2 pounds! emoDance Can't get any more takers on this flat and the morning is running out. We try some rip rap but no takers. So we motor back to another main lake flat and the fish have moved onto this one big time. We both begin to hook fish in the 1 - 2 pound range on worms. They seem to like any color at this point. Sam decides to switch to a big black sinko carolina rigged with a little weight and tells me he will catch a big one that way. He does after about 12 casts. Another 3 plus! emoDance We both catch a lot of fish on this flat. Sam caught 9 and I caught 8. We both lost at least 3 or 4 each. Very light bite. When the wind picked up and the sun came out the bite seemed to be a little better in the late morning. Finished the day around 12:30. Overall, I was very happy with the day even though my son cleaned my clock this time.
