Got to Waterfront around 5:30, and we dumped Randy's boat into the water and headed upstream. I hadn't been on the G in a week and a half and I knew things had changed. Last time I was on the water the temps were in the mid 70s, and the grass was still fairly short in the shallows along the main river. I get out there and find the temps in the low 80s and the grass starting to choke out water 2-4 ft in depth, save the mussell bars. I figured this would be the last hurah in a few areas that have been really good to me since late March. I was right, but managed a few nice keepers from those areas. After some work establishing the right presentation, we got into some fish with lizards, traps and worms. The better fish came from the soft plastics on clean bottoms.
After that bite shut off, we headed out to the main channel so I could start working on a main river pattern that I hope to use throughout the summer til fall breaks the heat. Had a few hits and misses and my brother tagged a nice keeper on a big worm. After being nearly ran over by a Tuesday Night Big Fish Tournament angler we decided to head on in.
It was a nice afternoon after work with best 5 measuring approx 17 lbs. The weight is down, but still a lot of fun. I need to work on that deeper pattern. We probably boated around 10 keepers, and water temps were 81-82 degrees. Lots of current as well.
