Launched this morning around 7 from HBSP and headed up above the nukes. Fished up there for a couple of hours but nothing very impressive. I did catch one LM on a 10" Junebug C-rig. Got a couple of other bites on spinner bait. Lorraine decided to dive for muscles for a while, I must admit though I am a little skeptical about eating them (Any thoughts here?)

We headed back to the dock around 9:30 and decided to try and shoot some docks that I have never tried before for crappie. On about the fifth cast I snapped my rod in two and somehow elbowed Lorraine in the face. Not sure how I did that, but I decided at that point we should just head on in.

Since I had such an enjoyable and highly successful morning trip, I decided that I would try again this evening. I called a about 4 different people to see if they would like to go, but had no luck getting a partner. I loaded up about 5 and went and swapped my broken rod, got some new tackle and headed out to try the channel ledges. My depth finder was not working properly when I first hit the water around 6 so I pulled into a marina and got in the shade and got that fixed then went and found the channel ledges and started trying to catch fish on them.

I believe, although I am not certain, that I was marking fishing in several locations; however, I only got one bite, and I missed that one. I fished about an 800 yard stretch of the channel ledge for about 2.5 hours. I would basically drive in a zig zag fashion from about 25 feet out to where it was about 40 feet and throw back up into the shallower water. I tried several different worms and the ol' brushhog but the only thing I got was a sunburn and a stick (although the stick was pretty exciting for the first 15 or 20 seconds).

There were a couple of other fishermen out who may well have thought the sun had gotten to me by the end of my trip when I decided I would just spend 20 or 30 minutes cruising around in the general area trying to learn the terrain some. I would just sort of drive with no particular direction looking for ledges and humps and fish so that maybe next time I would have a better understanding of how the terrain looks. This may have been the most fruitful part of my trip today.
