I woke up this morning at 4 AM to my son, Kaizer, opening the front door and the alarm going off emoParty emoParty emoParty Didn't have a clue what that buzzing was until my wife told me she thought he was coming in.... I wondered why emoScratch
Then it hit me... the CFF was today... duh! emoRolleyes
I fished the Nick two times in one year about 4 years ago and was clueless emoConfused Kaizer pm'd a friend who recommended a location ( which, fortunately I had been to before) to try to pick up a few... so, we had a game plan emoDance
We made it to our first ( and only planned ) stop, playing bumper cars with other tx fishermen and made it through 5 casts each before we caught a fish emoFish ... kept the first cast, first fish mojo out of the boat emoBig
... it wasn't a keeper, but it had a few scales on it. We farted around and caught several fish on a crankbait, carolina rig and spinnerbait in 3 to 8 ft of water with grass growing just under the surface ... water temp was 82ish, air temp was cold emoEek ... I would have traded my tackle box for a parka this morning... this wasn't an occasion for shorts emoEek We picked up our first keeper around 7:30... and kept on throwing. I hung a fish on a crankbait, it ripped some drag, big head shake, was definitely bigger than the other fish we had caught emoEek ... Kaizer was 'on point' with the net waiting on me while I 'skillfully' kept the fish from jumping, worked it slowly to the boat... and started bringing it up when we saw the slime emoBang emoBang it was a good eating size flathead emoEnforce . It warmed us up some emoSmile ... we moved on out to deeper water on an underwater point, marked some fish on the shady side of a hump in about 15 feet of water and caught several on CR and CB, but no keeper. We decided to move on to the channel and join the conga line at the rock pile emoDance emoDance emoDance ... didn't do too well, so we moved to a hump I had fished many moons ago and marked some fish sitting on a ledge that drops from 4 to 35 ft and saw a couple schoolers.... we caught a few more here with CB, CR, SB, 3 were keepers, so we culled 1. I thought we were about to set a CFF tourney record emoBig

We headed back to the weigh in with our record setting limit and 1 fish was kind of lethargic ... we left the ice at home emoBang but, the Rejuvinade perked it right up (it swam away fine after weighing it). Our hefty limit ( after culling a little one) was 5.32 LBS emoEnforce emoBang emoLaugh I thought we had set the record for smallest 3 fish weighed in on a tourney, but BBass and Jason tied us emoHoppingmad emoHoppingmad emoHoppingmad
Was a great day fishing with my son again, and really enjoyed the CFF fellowship... you guys are great! nice to meet the new faces and seeing the regulars too. emoThumbsup emoTongue Was good to see FA there too ... emoBig
